I think it‘s important for children to embark on the journey Auggie takes us, and see that it‘s not what‘s on the outside that counts, but what‘s on the inside. We don‘t need to judge a book on its cover, but by the contents. Auggie sees the world in a better way than most of us do, and his story proves it. #UCFLAE3414SuB18

This engaging fictional RA, children‘s literature book by Helen Palmer is about a young boy buying his first fish and not listening to the store owner (Mr. Carp) about feeding the fish the right amount. When the boy over feeds Otto, we go through a journey about how to get him back to the right size. This emotional RF book by Katherine Applegate is a true eye opener to readers of all ages. Great for lit circles or even a read aloud (if you can manage to hold back the tears). This informational B book by Jess Brallier teaches children all about Albert Einstein. this book includes quotes, a brief description of his childhood, his theories, a timeline of events and so much more to help children learn everything they could possibly want to know about this brilliant man. The children would be able to read this book during guided reading, study him more during a historical person project and get creative for presentations.

Falling Up by Shel Silverstein is a composition of many short poems and drawings. I read about 1/4 of the book for this post (TBH) but I have read it in its entirety before. The poem that stood out to me the most was “New World” on page 62 because it‘s extremely relatable to anyone who reads this book, especially elementary school aged children. #UCFLAE3414SuB18

This very cute and relatable, fictional book by Audrey Penn is a great choice for Kindergarten-2nd graders. Chester the raccoon is nervous about his first day at school and leaving his mom for the first time, but she reminds him that no matter what, she is always with him. She does so by showing him an old family tradition of kissing the palm of your loved ones hand, so when they feel down, they always have a kiss with them. #UCFLAE3414SuB18

This classic fictional book by Norman Bridwell is about Mr. Bleakman enjoying his day at the park, only to have Clifford and his friends ruin his day at the park. He pulls up a sign that says no dogs allowed in the park, but then realizes how boring the park is without dogs so he gets the law to change where dogs can go in the park. UDL 9.1 allows the children to discuss their beliefs with the situation, while EL 6 monitors comprehension.

This fictional book by Aaron Blabey is a good edition to any Kindergarten- 2nd grade classroom library. It received picture book of the year in 2005. We follow the adventures of Pig and his relationship with Trevor. The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle is an example of a classic traditional literature book that lives on and becomes more and more popular every year. It‘s about a very hungry caterpillar who loves to eat and eat and eat until he finally gets full, and goes through a life changing transformation. Finding Winnie by Lindsay Mattick is such an awesome, non-fictional, Caldecott award winning book! It‘s perfect for anyone of all ages, especially for those who love Winnie the Pooh (myself included)! It‘s based off a true story, following the life of this amazing creature. EL 28 is perfect because they get to do more research about Harry, and UDL 5.2 allows them to use multiples tools to do so. #UCFLAE3414SuB18

This fictional Caldecott award winning book by Aaron Reynolds is a great addition to any classroom. It takes children on a journey with Jasper Rabbit and his “scary” encounter with creepy carrots. EL 14 and UDL 7.3 are key because of the way speech is used throughout the book which in turn, minimizes distractions throughout the classroom. This fantastic fictional book by Bill Martin Jr. and Eric Carle is a great addition to any classroom! It takes children (and adults) on a great journey into what various animals might see on a daily basis. This book won the EB White Read Aloud Award.
