The Grouchy Ladybug | Eric Carle
post image
Mehso-so

In this fictional book by Eric Carle, readers quickly follow alongside a grouchy ladybug who doesn‘t have any manners and who thinks it‘s better than anyone else. This is a great book for teaching time, manners and friendship. UDL 9.3 allows students to develop self assessments and reflections, while recording lectures on audio tapes would be helpful for students who aren‘t exposed to English very much (EL 21). #UCFLAE3414SuB18

prissy.mooney www.scholastic.com/teachers/lesson-plans/teaching-content/grouchy-ladybug-lesson-plan/ offers to lesson plans teaching children about animals and their sizes. These lesson plans make way for great extension lessons, and you could even use the book “Actual Size” too! 6y
RossoS Sounds like a good book🙌🏼 It‘s great that your resource provided ways to incorporate math. It‘s always fun incorporating other subjects 6y
DrSpalding Teaching strategy would you use…? I think it makes a great read aloud and storytelling. 6y

This fictional book by Drew Daywalt gives us perspective and to why all the crayons quit and how they end up coming back to work. It‘s a great book for children to read and analyze while having fun. This book would be best used as an independent read, or even a readers theater. UDL 3.2 highlights patterns, critical features, big ideas and relationships throughout the book. #UCFLAE3414SuB18

prissy.mooney EL 22 allows for enough wait time for second language learners to respond to questions. 6y
prissy.mooney www.crayonspicturebooks.com/day-crayons-quit-activities has an educators guide in PDF file form, for grades K-5 teachers. Inside it are suggested assignments, extension activities and writing prompts 6y

The Tiny Seed | Eric Carle
post image
Pickpick

This science fiction book by Eric Carle is fantastic for all elementary school students to learn about the journey of a seed growing into a plant. This would be a great book for independent reading or even guided reading to monitor students‘ comprehension (EL 6). UDL 6.4 enhances capacity for monitoring progress throughout the story. #UCFLAE3414SuB18

prissy.mooney www.carolhurst.com/titles/tinyseed.html has awesome resources to use within the parameters of the book. From math, to language arts, to science, there are activities that can be used with any age group to get the class started. The site also has books related to this one if the students wanted to learn more information 6y
DrSpalding Just because the topic is science related does not mean a book is classified as science fiction. This would however be a wonderful book to use prior to a lesson about plants. 6y

Wonder | R. J. Palacio

Pickpick

This emotional RF book by R.J. Palacio is great to use for a LC or even a RA throughout the semester/unit. I think it‘s important for children to embark on the journey Auggie takes us, and see that it‘s not what‘s on the outside that counts, but what‘s on the inside. We don‘t need to judge a book on its cover, but by the contents. Auggie sees the world in a better way than most of us do, and his story proves it. #UCFLAE3414SuB18

prissy.mooney wonderthebook.com/for-teachers is an awesome site for teachers to see how to teach the lessons and themes that were present in the book, how to make a difference in the classroom, talk about craniofacial differences, and even download various resources to use inside and outside of the classroom. 6y

This informational B book by Jess Brallier teaches children all about Albert Einstein. this book includes quotes, a brief description of his childhood, his theories, a timeline of events and so much more to help children learn everything they could possibly want to know about this brilliant man. The children would be able to read this book during guided reading, study him more during a historical person project and get creative for presentations.

prissy.mooney This is a great book to do guided reading on, or even independent reading. Falling Up by Shel Silverstein is a composition of many short poems and drawings. I read about 1/4 of the book for this post (TBH) but I have read it in its entirety before. The poem that stood out to me the most was “New World” on page 62 because it‘s extremely relatable to anyone who reads this book, especially elementary school aged children. #UCFLAE3414SuB18

prissy.mooney I really feel like UDL 2.4 is really important because at the end of the day, words are still out there even after we say them. Also, EL 24 allows the incorporation of second language learners‘ language and culture into the classroom bringing a deeper understanding to seeing the world in a different angle 6y

This very cute and relatable, fictional book by Audrey Penn is a great choice for Kindergarten-2nd graders. Chester the raccoon is nervous about his first day at school and leaving his mom for the first time, but she reminds him that no matter what, she is always with him. She does so by showing him an old family tradition of kissing the palm of your loved ones hand, so when they feel down, they always have a kiss with them. #UCFLAE3414SuB18

This classic fictional book by Norman Bridwell is about Mr. Bleakman enjoying his day at the park, only to have Clifford and his friends ruin his day at the park. He pulls up a sign that says no dogs allowed in the park, but then realizes how boring the park is without dogs so he gets the law to change where dogs can go in the park. UDL 9.1 allows the children to discuss their beliefs with the situation, while EL 6 monitors comprehension.

prissy.mooney #UCFLAE3414SuB18 www.pbs.org/parents/Clifford/activities allows for teachers to choose what life lessons they want to focus on next for their students 6y

See www.wishtreebook.com/resources for ways of creating your own! #UCFLAE3414SuB18

DianaHerrera @prissy.mooney ooh I love this idea of having a wishtree in the classroom. This can help students keep a positive vibe in the classroom when they need a reminder of how to meet and greet others and make them feel welcomed. I think it would be even better to have the school library do this for the entire school to see and read. 6y
