Pickpick

18-year-old Madeline Whittier was diagnosed with immunodeficiency aka “bubble baby disease”, which prevents her from ever leaving her house. She is forced to stay home with her mother and nurse reading books and looking through a window day after day. When a new family moves in next door Maddy watches with curiosity and she wishes that she could for once leave her hermetically sealed environment.

sarahtalbot The son of the new family, Olly, won‘t let Maddie‘s disease or her mother stop him from showing her the world. After Maddy and Olly break free from her sealed home her worst fears come to life. She ends up in the hospital and the doctor confirms that her immune system is in fact weakened. Eventually, Maddy‘s mother reveals that Maddy has always been perfectly healthy. 2y
sarahtalbot I really liked this book. There was never a dull moment for me and I would suggest it to everyone who loves a “forbidden love” story. The chemistry between Maddy and Olly was felt all the way through and they were very well developed. I will definitely be reading another book by Nicola Yoon again! 2y
MissYaremcio Nicely done Sarah! This looks like such a good read - I definitely need to read it! I was just missing your POV and how it is established. 4/6 2y

We Were Liars | E Lockhart

Mehso-so

I heard so many good reviews on this book, so I thought I would give it a read. I was expecting an eventful book that I would not be able to put down. The book was the opposite. I started reading it in the summer but put it down because it wasn‘t sticking with me.

sarahtalbot The characters were well developed and the overall tone was getting me through. The plot took a very long time to develop and there was almost to much going on every chapter. Overall, if you like a book about family struggles, adventures, mystery and love with no boundaries this is the book for you. 3y
LibrarianRyan I agree. I was not into this book at all. But I find that to be true of all E Lochart books I have read. Everyone else loves it and I'm just like ehhh. 3y
sarahtalbot The main theme of the novel is the consequences surrounding one‘s mistakes. It is centred on the seemingly perfect, wealthy Sinclair family who spend every summer on their private island. Not every summer is perfect. During summer 15 Cadence had an accident. 2 years later her cousins aka The Liars re-emerge to prompt her to remember the accident. (edited) 3y
rubyslippersreads All I can say is, don‘t let your reading companion know what happens to the only likeable characters in the book. 3y
MissYaremcio Nicely done Sarah!! I really liked your bluntness with your review! If this book by Lochart isn't speaking to you, I have another on my shelf you might like! 6/6 (Also your dog is adorable!!) 3y
