Someone gave me this book in 2004. I just started reading it a few days ago. Better late than never. I don‘t know why so waited so long to start reading it because I really enjoy works by this author!

First book read second in the Vincent Ettrich series. Another story about tricking life, death and Chaos. Making my way through Jonathan Carroll‘s books but not sure if I‘ll finish them all by the end of the year, but I think I‘ve completed my collection of his hard to find books, and sometimes spending too much 💸
Vincent is resurrected by his unborn magic child who can psychically communicate with his mother. Together with a sexy guide from Purgatory they must stop Chaos from breaking God.
Started slow with a cast of unpleasant characters, but once the story dissolved into bizzaro set pieces I had a pretty good time.
Warning: something graphically violent happens to a baby elephant.
If you‘re never going to read this check the spoiler in the comments.
Don‘t worry, it‘s not really a giant talking rat. That would be crazy!
It is actually the soul of Vincent Ettrich from the first time that he died, before he was resurrected by his still-in-utero magic child. The rat is trying to convince Vincent that he belongs dead.
I wasn‘t enjoying the first 1/2 of this book, but I‘ve read enough Carroll to trust him. After the big info-dump scene about God being a mosaic of all dead souls it has picked up.
Argh! After posting last week about how much I hate to read things out of order, I started Glass Soup last night then noticed this morning in a post by @GrilledCheeseSamurai that White Apples comes first.
I‘m slipping! But luckily it was on my Kindle in a matter of moments so let‘s try this again.
Starting.
