I loved all the historical details in this novel. I knew virtually nothing of French Canada during this time. It was a nice change from the time periods I usually read. #historicalfiction
In the 1600s hundreds of women are sent from Paris to the wilderness of Canada. Women are needed to marry the men in this harsh new place. Babies are needed immediately to grow the population.
Laure is young. She makes many mistakes, as young and inexperienced people do.
She quickly learns loss, love, loneliness and how to survive. Goodread reviews-not so good

This is historical fiction about the “Filles de Roi” that came from France to Canada in the 1600‘s. Full review here https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2449590642 #83of2018 4🌟 #PopSugar44
The book was fairly decent and then it quickly went downhill. The ending, ugh, the ending. It is almost like the author lost interest in writing her own novel and just wanted to finish it as quickly as possible! It left me thinking......."That's it? Where's the rest of the story?"
⭐️.5 (One and a half stars)
Someone recommended this book to me after I mentioned that one of my ancestors was a "fille du roi". Essentially, it was a state funded "program" that gave poor French girls a dowry and a trousseau to settle in New France and marry a man who was already living there. The goal was for them to have children and colonize the territory. It worked really well and French is one of the official languages of Canada!
The novel is pretty decent so far!
