Madame de Pompadour
Madame de Pompadour | Nancy Mitford
3 posts | 7 read | 12 to read
When Jeanne-Antoinette was nine, she was told by a fortune teller that she would one day become the mistress of the handsome young Louix XV - from that day she was groomed to become 'a morsel fit for a King'. Nancy Mitford lovingly tells the story of how the little girl rose, against a backdrop of savage social-climbing, intrigue, excess and high drama, to become the most powerful women of the eighteenth century French court, Le Pompadour.

Pickpick

I have had such a love for Madame de Pompadour since I was fifteen, and finally got a copy of this delightful book by Nancy Mitford. It was written with Nancy‘s regular sassy style and full of fun little anecdotes and asides. A great biography of an amazing woman!

emilyhaldi Ooohhh fun!!! I NEED this one! 5y

The bourgeoise young girl who was groomed to become “a morsel fit for a king” went on to become the powerful mistress of Louis XV for twenty eventful years.

I‘ve been looking forward to gifting this lovely lady to my Nana ever since I set eyes on her in Versailles!

It‘s also Melbourne Cup Day - some people get dressed up, drink too much and watch horses but I‘ve been reading, baking and getting ready to have afternoon tea at my grandparents! (I wish I had a public holiday on/around my birthday - so convenient!)
