Feast of Sorrows: Stories
Feast of Sorrows: Stories | Angela Slatter
4 posts | 2 read | 20 to read
A Feast of Sorrows Angela Slatter s first U.S. collection features twelve of the World Fantasy and British Fantasy Award-winning Australian author s finest, darkest fairy tales, and adds two new novellas to her marvelous cauldron of fiction. Stories peopled by women and girls fearless, frightened, brave, bold, frail, and fantastical who take the paths less traveled by, accept (and offer) poisoned apples, and embrace transformation in all its forms. Reminiscent of Angela Carter at her best, Slatter s work is both timeless and fresh: fascinating new reflections from the enchanted mirrors of fairy tales and folklore."

This book stole my heart. Slatter's writing is amazing! It's atmospheric and gripping and her stories range from not quite right to downright Grimm. I love dark and twisted fairy tales and these are some of the best. Some are variations on classics and others feel wholly unique. Better than I could have imagined. My new favorite author and probably my favorite book of the year. #allhallowsread #scaryreads #litsyfeature

Luke went on a run with daddy this morning, so he's loving lazy reading time. And I'm loving these stories! Super girl power, slightly disturbing fairy tales. It's awesome. #dogsoflitsy #allhallowsread #scaretober

The newest addition to my #AllHallowsRead #TBR. I just read the first story and am hooked! Not a little disturbing and filled with elements of the fantastic, it was everything I look for in a dark fairy tale. I think I just found my new favorite short story author.

I also just started American Witches by Susan Fair and am finishing up Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier and Poe's Tales of Death and Dementia. Here's to a great #Scaretober! #LitsyFeature

An extremely dark, twisted, and amazing collection of short stories. Some are sequels/retellings of the traditional, while others are wholly original. I love that it all takes place in the same world and towards the end, you can see the connection between the stories.
