Elements: A Visual Exploration of Every Known Atom in the Universe
Elements: A Visual Exploration of Every Known Atom in the Universe | Theodore Gray
8 posts | 6 read | 9 to read
"The Elements"has become an international sensation, with over one million copies in-print worldwide. The highly-anticipated paperback edition of"The Elements"is finally available. An eye-opening, original collection of gorgeous, never-before-seen photographic representations of the 118 elements in the periodic table. The elements are what we, and everything around us, are made of. But how many elements has anyone actually seen in pure, uncombined form?"The Elements"provides this rare opportunity. Based on seven years of research and photography, the pictures in this book make up the most complete, and visually arresting, representation available to the naked eye of every atom in the universe. Organized in order of appearance on the periodic table, each element is represented by a spread that includes a stunning, full-page, full-color photograph that most closely represents it in its purest form. For example, at -183 C, oxygen turns from a colorless gas to a beautiful pale blue liquid. Also included are fascinating facts, figures, and stories of the elements as well as data on the properties of each, including atomic weight, density, melting and boiling point, valence, electronegativity, and the year and location in which it was discovered. Several additional photographs show each element in slightly altered forms or as used in various practical ways. The element's position on the periodic table is pinpointed on a mini rendering of the table and an illustrated scale of the element's boiling and/or melting points appears on each page along with a density scale that runs along the bottom.Packed with interesting information, this combination of solid science and stunning artistic photographs is the perfect gift book for every sentient creature in the universe.Includes a tear-out poster of Theodore Gray's iconic Photographic Periodic Table!"

Leaving through this book about the elements and vacuuming up random facts of pub quiz trivia.

Pennies in Bermuda have pigs on one side. I'm certainly going to need that information one day, I'm sure.

This book is great. It‘s not the kind of book I would normally read, but it was extremely interesting earning about al of the elements.

It's that time of year. With Jolabokaflod and Christmas right around the corner, I thought it'd be fun to share some bookish gift ideas. Feel free to share book recommendations, reading accessories, Etsy finds, etc, and tag #giftguide2020
I have three books for those with a curious mind. Will My Cat deals with honestly with questions about death and dying without being morbid. What If? is very scientific, but not too technical, and very funny. -->

TieDyeDude The Elements is a gorgeous coffee table book with a spread dedicated to each element on the periodic table. There are two other books in the series for the big nerds: Molecules and Reactions 3y

One of the beautiful spreads about each element in this book. Science nerds and non-science people will be both delighted by this book. The pictures are amazing, most taken by Theo Gray himself.

Daisey I have this book and Molecules in my class library, and I love flipping through them! 😍 7y
anneofgreentables One of my science teachers had this book in their room. I definitely spent some time thumbing through it! 7y
Gezemice @Daisey @CrazyLibraryGirl It is a lot of fun just to pop it open randomly. One can read it cover to cover but no need to! 7y

I live in Central Illinois and am lucky to know the author of this gorgeous book. Theo Gray lives a few blocks from me and his daughter went to school with mine. His hobby is the periodic table of elements. He actually has a table that contains a sample of each element - well, the ones that are containable and not dangerous, at least.
This book is beautiful and educational, perfect for the coffee table.

Each element of the periodic table has a two-page spread, with excellent photos (mostly of items that the author has collected) & an entertaining & informative blurb describing the history of the element & its uses. A lot of it likely went over Charlie's head, but he enjoyed it nonetheless and exposure to the Coolness of Science is essential, I think. *I* certainly enjoyed it; Gray is a hoot and we laughed out loud in spots at his funny quips.
