The Blood Between Us
The Blood Between Us | Zac Brewer
9 posts | 11 read | 10 to read
Family secrets turn deadly in this edgy page-turner about the insidious limits of labels and the ties that bind just a little too tightly, from the New York Times bestselling author of the Chronicles of Vladimir Tod. Growing up, Adrien and his sister, Grace, competed viciously for everything. It wasnt easy being the adopted sibling, but Adrien tried to get along; it was Grace who didnt want anything to do with him. When their scientist parents died in a terrible lab fire, there was nothing left to hold them together. Now, after years apart, Adrien and Grace are forced to reunite at the elite boarding school where their parents were teachers. Being back around everyone he used to know makes Adrien question the person hes become, while being back around Grace makes him feel like someone he doesnt want to be. For as much as Adrien wants to move on, someone seems determined to reopen old wounds. And when Adrien starts to suspect that Grace knows more about their parents deaths than she let on, he realizes there are some wounds no amount of time can heal. If Adrien isnt careful, they may even kill him.

This is a decently paced read. The ending however wound up quickly. It went from who does Adien really want to kiss, to hey here‘s what really happened with that fire and oh by the way, the exploding bathtub didn‘t go as planned. It was just way too quick. I had more questions. It was a fun listen, and Brewer can keep a reader entertained.

This book fulfilled the YA or MG novel by an author who identifies as LGBTQ portion of the #ReadHarder2017 challenge. I chose to read Zac Brewer because I'm a fan of his Vladimir Todd books. I struggled through this one. The voice actor did a fantastic job of differentiating all the character performances, but I never connected to the narrator or the story. The last disc tied everything together in a very satisfying way.

Here is my #readingequiptment for the #readjanuary prompt. My car's CD player helps me read when I commute to work and when I am running errands.

This book had a lot of potential. Siblings full of animosity are forced together for their senior year of high school when things start going awry. The ending is SO BRIEF of a wrap up that it disappointed.

This is my audiobook for about 15 minutes of my ride this morning because I'm that close to finishing. It's been okay. The reader is good; the story is so-so.
