Pretty good, I liked that there was actually some variety in the supernatural world (something I‘ve worked on a lot in my own stories), and I enjoyed seeing so much drawn from African folklore. It was a nice change to see urban fantasy set outside its usual geographic locations.
Back to a familiar problem with the beasties being hyped up as super-powerful, and then easily dispatched though.

A few pages in and already enjoying it, but need to work now so I‘ll be switching to an audiobook (probably Melmoth) or a podcast.

This book is pure insanity. Once part horror, one part detective, and another part mythology, with a slap of dark humor. I immediately asked my library to order the second one upon finishing.

Like if Constantine (the excellent Keanu Reeves movie) was set in South Africa. Mystical mysteries, avenging angels, the seven deadly sins, and a (human) detective with a tragic past.

This book ... is bananas.

I went in with no expectations. It was an absolutely fantastic ride. The premise is bonkers, but London and Armitage are great. I even enjoyed dog. The secondary characters get a pretty raw deal, but it is a world I would enjoy revisiting.

“‘I have a message from my sister, Yemanja. The message is as follows: When you see the five rand coin, pick it up.‘ That‘s it. She fades back into the mural, becoming a painting once again ... ‘When the f*** did we start living in Twin Peaks?‘”

Always love a good Twin Peaks reference!!

Loving the sly humour and pop culture references in Poison City. The alcoholic dog is also fantastic.
