This. Was. Great. Some world-building gaps I hope get filled in by the next book in the series. But a super entertaining story. Great characters. Great narrator on the audiobook.

EliNeedsMoreShelves I NEEEEED book two. Like, yesterday. 1mo

I loved this. Not perfect, for sure. But the world-building was great. A slow burn, focused mostly on the development of the two main characters and their relationship to each other. I can only hope the underlying threat is a main plot point in the second book. Also enjoyed the narrative via correspondence for most of the book. A solid pick.

Made it into Hour 12, with some help from entirely too much coffee!

This book has been unputdownable. Nevertheless, time to take a break from print and switch back to Raven Stratagem for some #audiocooking.

Late start to #24in48 because ... life.

But I did some #audiocleaning and finished Rosewater. Which was great. Loved that it is set in Nigeria. The protagonist is ... complicated, which can sometimes be code for annoying, but not in this case. And the narrator was excellent. A strong pick. Very much looking forward to the second book of the trilogy.

mommyincolor Dont feel bad, I barely broke 4 hours of reading and I started this morning. Good luck! 11mo

Managed a decent walk with the puppy last night. We got rained on, but made it home before the legit monsooning (totally a real word) started. Bracing for the 50 mph winds expected this afternoon.

Stay safe everyone!

We just took our morning walk in the first dusting of the year. Sadie found a stick, which she carried home and will now break into teeny, tiny pieces. I made some headway on the excellent Rosewater. #LitsyWalkers

Done! This was really enjoyable ... excepting the limited but predictable violence against women. I do wish more of the story was dedicated to getting to know the three main characters better, but the ending certainly leaves things open for future stories.

I flew through this. It was such a pleasant surprise. Told from multiple POV, which, given its length, was pretty essential for me. It is a small, familiar story at its core, but told on a grand and unique scale. I thought this was going to get me some of the way through #24in48, but now I can get started on a few other TBRs.

Finished this on the morning walk with the puppy today. One of my favorite authors, read by a great narrator. Certainly not the most compelling or interesting of LeGuin‘s work, but it is always enjoyable to spend some time in one of her worlds.

Not what I was expecting. Pleasantly surprisingly, however, exactly what I was in the mood to read. All of the characters were flawed and realistic and relatable. The ending was fitting, but I think I am still brooding about it. Just a little. Maybe.

This has been on my list for a very long time. Finally audio-booked it on my perfectly timed seven-hour drive home after drill this weekend. I loved it. It felt to me like atypical science fiction the same way ‘Story of Your Life‘ did. And audio was definitely the way to go on this one.

I thought the premise was unique and interesting. Some of it was hard to stomach because it felt possible and probable, while other aspects of the world felt unfinished. Aster is a compelling narrator, and, while the threat of physical violence against her is palpable throughout, the driving force of the plot remains abstract/secondary.

This is really a character-driven story. The title is the plot. If I didn‘t enjoy being with the characters, I am not sure there would have been anything else sustaining the narrative.

What is the bookish equivalent of ‘it‘s not you, it‘s me‘? I stuck it out for 150 pages. It has an intriguing start, but switches gears pretty quickly to a slow burn that I just wasn‘t in the mood for. I‘ll keep it on the TBR shelf in case I get inspired to give it another shot.
