Okay #Littens I need your help! I've read a book from every continent this year, except South America and Antarctica. I'm hoping to tackle at least South America before the year end. What do you recommend?

MrBook Oh, this one popped into my head *immediately*: "The Time of the Hero," by Mario Vargas Llosa! God, what an iconic book! It's complex and deep. A major banned book, so much so that it almost started a WWI domino-style war in South America ?! I had to read it for my Latin America Comparative Politics senior-level college class. A*maz*ing! I think it's short of 400 pages too, so it's do-able for the end of the year ???. Hope I helped! 7y
Hestapleton @MrBook THAT SOUNDS PERFECT. I've heard of Llosa, but never read it and I love banned books. Thanks a mil! 7y

MrBook Nice rec's, @Kirstin ! Adding those to my TBR, thank you 😊! 7y
Hestapleton @Kirstin Ooo, thank you!! I had just about given up on Antarctica! 7y
MrBook Well, there's more to Antarctica than just snow, ya know. There's....ice and...wind too. 😜😸 7y
Hestapleton @MrBook maybe a penguin or two? 7y
MrBook On occasion ☺️ 7y
Matilda Claudia Piñiero/ Umami by Laia Jufresa/ The Alchemist/ Clarice Lispector/ Juan Gabriel Vasquez 7y
Matilda A great book set in Antartica is Up To This Pointe 7y
BookswithTea Books by Isabelle Allende: 7y
Hestapleton @Matilda well, I'm a moron. I've had a copy of THE ALCHEMIST on my shelves since May and had no idea it was from South America. Whoops.... 7y
Matilda That one may depend if your challenge is a South American author or if the book has to be set in S.A. Coelho is Brazilian and it was originally written in Portuguese but if I remember right it's set in Spain/Egypt. 7y
Hestapleton @Matilda my goal is for the author to be from whatever country/continent. I've been trying to cut back on how many white, US dudes I read. So it sounds like Coelho fits! 7y
Matilda @Hehaney awesome! I only listed authors from central/S.A :) 7y
ptkpepe98 Coelho is always, always good. I loved 'The Alchemist,' but found 'Eleven Minutes' and 'The Witch of Portobello' quite different. The one that haunts me is 'Manuscript Found in Accra.' So much in that, for me, anyway. I think my favorite fiction remains Gabriel Garcia Marquez 'Love In the Time of Cholera' and non-fiction Paolo Freire 'Pedagogy of the Oppressed.' 7y
ptkpepe98 Oh! If you want to avoid the dudes, check out Isabel Allende, too. 7y

I loved cover of this book. Its a traveling exp. book by Meena Prabhu.I have whole set of her books. this one is about South America. I love books by Meena Prabhu. they're not just about places. they're about people, culture, history and the feel of that place. and of course about architecture. she simply takes you by hand to these incredible journeys with her. Book's name is Dakshin Rang meaning colours of south. its not in the database of Litsy.

TwinklingBooks p.s. Language of the book is Marathi. Which is my mother tongue. 8y
