I for sure didn‘t play through all 3,001,181,439,094,525 endings in this book, but I got through the readings for the kind of reader I am right now. I love how these CYOA books change and are “new” each time you pick them up. There is something new for every kind of reader—safe, risk-taker, curious, methodical, whatever. North is a delight. And hilarious.

This round kicked my a**. My mental health took a nose dive and it made it hard to do anything more than the bare minimum. I sort of dragged myself across the finish line here and I certainly don‘t feel healthier than I was when I started, but I know i gave it all the energy I had. Shoutout to my girls who kept me sane and gave me so much encouragement. @StayCurious @Hufflepuffle @IndoorDame Cat tax instead of lame stats. #bfcr4

StayCurious So sorry you had such a rough round. I think you did great by sticking with it - even though you didn't get the results you were hoping. I just want to let you know that even if you aren't able to do the next round, I'm always up for WhatsApp chats to keep each other sane. 5d

Delightfully unsettling. A blend of Grimm fairytales and domestic noir, with a heavy dose of unreliable narrator, Golding weaves a tale of the horror of motherhood. Is a mysterious woman trying to steal Lauren‘s twins or is she wrestling postpartum, depression and exhaustion playing tricks on her mind? A gripping, compelling story. 5⭐️ #netgalley

All I‘m saying is that if I had known about audiobooks in college, maybe I wouldn‘t have gotten a C in my Shakespeare class. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Listening and reading along really helped me engage in the play, and Shakespeare has always been really inaccessible for me. The full cast narration didn‘t hurt. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

ljuliel I do that sometimes too.. read along with the audiobook. It helps with the concentration sometimes. 3w
Daisey This makes perfect sense to me. I love listening to full cast versions of plays, but sometimes it is hard to keep track of characters and stage directions. Following along in print as I listen is my favorite as well. 3w

Taking a cue from @IndoorDame and setting some new #bfcr4 goals. Between some health issues and the kittens, meeting my physical goals has been really hard and making me discouraged. So I‘m refocusing on some body/mind goals that will hopefully make me feel more like myself and running or walking I do manage to do is just a bonus.

Second #deweysreadathon book done! I didn‘t know 95% of the stuff this book and it all made me sick to my stomach. Jacobsen tells the story of the Nazi scientists who, despite their atrocious war crimes, were recruited by the US to work for the government. Those men do not deserve the honor many of them still receive. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A fast paced and unique legal thriller. While I wasn‘t able to predict the final twist, there wasn‘t enough lead up for me to believe the twist when it happened (it‘s hard to explain without spoilers!). Hestapleton @Mogoeg are the tagged books ones you are thinking about? I did recently read Future Home of the Living God, so I would prefer one of the others. 2mo
Mogoeg This one looks intriguing too. Sorry about the multiple tags I still haven‘t quite mastered Litsy 2mo
Mogoeg They‘re ones I thought we could. But it seems like we all have a book to start - or did we take The Testaments off the list because someone was already reading it? (edited) 2mo
MeesesPieces @Mogoeg I‘ve read future home and I had started the testaments for another book club. The others sound great! 2mo
Hestapleton @Mogoeg yeah I was going to do Testaments but since @MeesesPieces already started, I was going to do one of these! Just wanted to see if anyone had preference. 2mo
MeesesPieces @hestapleton @mogoeg I also read war of the worlds (sorry I read a lot) but I‘ve always wanted to read Red Clocks and The Unit. 😀 2mo

MeesesPieces @Mogoeg @hazel2019 @hestapleton it‘s almost time! May I suggest we all use different color ink and a little intro in each book? And would it be ok if I added a library card pouch in each book for us to sign and date like the old days at libraries? Haha! I received a library card book kit last year and thought it may be fun to use! 3w
Hestapleton @MeesesPieces so cute! I love that! I‘ll probably use purple because I think I started marking up RED CLOCKS with that color in grad school 😂 3w
MeesesPieces @Hestapleton Awesome! I‘ll use red. It matches the color of Scythe haha! 3w
Hazel2019 @MeesesPieces @Hestapleton @Mogoeg Love the library card idea! You might need to mail those to us ahead of time tho otherwise we won‘t all get to sign each book. I can do blue for pen color although that sounds sort of uninspired 🤔 3w

I had a hard time with this book at first, simply because the author/main character and I had wildly different high school experiences. But as the book went on, we got to know each other and became friends. The blurred line between author and narrator worked really well, reflecting the speaker‘s fractured and scattered mindset. I can‘t speak to the bipolar rep, but the book seemed honest. #netgalley ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Greenwood is an automatic-buy author for me. Her first book was amazing and this one is just as compulsively readable. While the subject is heart-wrenching—a newborn with Downs is stolen from her mom and committed to a “school”—Greenwood writes beautiful my of a mother‘s love. The ending was a bit tidy, but I loved it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #netgalley

Nothing stunning. A cozy setting with family drama involving a sexual assault. This story could have been much deeper than it was, but it felt very surface level with a nice tidy ending. This is one topic that I do want to see portrayed grittily and Gyllenhaal couldn‘t get there. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hestapleton @mdm139 I know right?! So cozy. 2mo
OnlyYoo Oh geez I saw cozy family and I was like oh that‘s nice. And then I saw sexual assault and it went from nice to sour hella quick 2mo
Hestapleton @OnlyYoo yeahhhhh. 2mo

The German Midwife | Mandy Robotham

This was good, but not great. The premise was interesting, and the ending suspenseful, but nothing carried this book into spectacular. The past/present chapters were confusing and probably not necessary. The story would have been smoother if told chronologically instead of back and forth. #netgalley ⭐️⭐️⭐️

My final stats are definitely not what I wanted to see. I think I bit off more than I could chew this round, coupled with some depression and a reading slump that made it hard to stay on track. BUT I did read more Netgalley books than I probably would have otherwise, I‘m focusing on more veggies in our meals and I‘m walking a lot more. It might not be the progress I had in mind, but it‘s progress all the same! #brcr3 #bookdragons

wanderinglynn I think those looks like some pretty good stats. 🙌🏻 Maybe it‘s not what you wanted, but take a minute to celebrate what you did accomplish. 🎉👏🏻 Way to go! 2mo
IndoorDame A lot of hard work went into those stats! Way to go! 👏👏🎉🎉 2mo

I‘ve never had a child or lost a child and I think that made this book harder for me. Grief is slippery and so is this novel. As the speaker converses with her dead son about language and the nature time, I found myself getting lost. A good character introspection, but if plot-driven novels are your jam, skip this one. #netgalley Book 6/12 for #bfcr3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Jensen has an easy, gripping way of writing. It felt like sitting back with an old friend and a drink, catching up on his life over the past few years. The middle was a little disjointed—I had a hard time keeping track of all of the different cases. The ending was a bit more “call to action” than I like from nonfiction, but I get it. If you watch a lot of Investigations Discovery at night, this is for you. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #netgalley Book 5/12 for #bfcr3

Sneaking in some early alone time on my day off with coffee, true crime and rambunctious kitten.

AlaMich I see everything but the kitten in this pic...🤔😉 3mo
Hestapleton @AlaMich hahaha that‘s because he knew I was mad at him for knocking over my first cup of coffee on the carpet before I got to drink any. 🙃 3mo

I love holiday weekends and time for long reading stretches. This was a little overhyped, in my opinion. The concept is fascinating and it has twisty and propelling moments. But the first half of the book got boring pretty quickly. It was good, but not spectacular. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

My last book for #booked2019 summer! I chose this for genre busting, since it‘s fiction trapped very well inside a nonfiction guise. That said, this wasn‘t my cup of tea. I don‘t think historical murders are my thing. But I liked the author‘s inventiveness and I can see why it got shortlisted for the Man Booker a few years back! ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Cathythoughts I loved this one 👍🏻 3mo
Ruthiella I would have liked it to be more suspenseful than it was. Just so so for me too.😏 3mo

Yikes. The frame narrative was completely unnecessary, but the characters there were the only ones I really liked being with. The narrator of the main story, Olivia, was completely self-absorbed and didn‘t help matters by having her story told, instead of shown. The ending was trite, even though it had some potential to go somewhere. Firm pass. #netgalley Book 4/12 for #bfcr3

Prepping for the Witcher series in Netflix. These short stories are a bit disjointed and feel more like a scattered novel. But it‘s a good introduction to the series and I‘m willing to dive into the next volume of stories. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

1. House of Leaves! So intimidated.
2. A Court of Thorns and Roses series. I read it at least once year.
3. Goodreads says 803, but once you factor in Litsy stacks, at LEAST 1,000+
4. Calm the F*ck Down by Sarah Knight. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ funny and sometimes helpful. Not earth shattering.
5. Passing on the love to more #BookDragons @StayCurious

The Library Book | Susan Orlean
Pickpick

This was simultaneously heartbreaking and heartwarming. Orlean tells the story of library people—how they fight to create spaces for learning and living and how they rise stronger from tragedy. If you ever felt at home in a library, even once, you need to read this book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #Netgalley Book 3/12 for #bfcr3

Ugh this was not my week. Work is busy and my anxiety has been high. I didn‘t make much progress on anything. I think I‘m going to drop the 7 minute goal. I have a hard time hitting it and I‘d rather focus on my shoulder exercises anyway. Hoping for a better week 4. #bfcr3 #bookdragons

IndoorDame I‘m sorry you had a hard week! Getting clear on your priorities, and focusing in on the goals that really matter is totally the way to make sure you succeed. Let us know if we can support you going in to next week 💜 3mo
wanderinglynn You made some good progress. 🙌🏻 One step, one day at a time. And absolutely, if the 7 min goal isn‘t working, drop it. 👍🏻 3mo

The Rain Watcher | Tatiana de Rosnay

Reading this was like walking through a rainy, humid day—slow and foggy and all you want is to be inside and dry. This story meandered too much to cling to any central plot and the ending was too abrupt to make sense. A firm pass from me. ⭐️⭐️ #Netgalley Book 2/12 for #bfcr3 (SO BEHIND).
