Europa Editions publishes many of Jane Gardam's books, and they have sales pretty often. My favorite of hers is currently on sale. Polly Flint's sea-faring father leaves her with her maternal aunts for a voyage and is lost at sea. Raised in a decidedly odd household by aunts who are stuck in the Victorian age, Gardam steers her though the World Wars and the many changes they wrought on society. Adrift, Polly takes Crusoe as her guiding light.

Aimeesue @jlhammar I adore Gardam. I wish she were still writing, but at 94, I suppose she's having a well deserved restful retirement. I led a book discush a few months ago on C's Daughter - I'm definitely a JG evangelist. 😂 I can't understand why she's not more well known. I think she's brilliant. 1y
