5 posts | 4 read | 10 to read
HIGH ADVENTURE ON THE SWORD EDGE OF DESTINY A Cavern of Black Ice is the first book in J.V. Jones's Sword of Shadow series As a newborn Ash March was abandoned--left for dead at the foot of a frozen mountain. Found and raised by the Penthero Iss, the mighty Surlord of Spire Vanis, she has always known she is different. Terrible dreams plague her and sometimes in the darkness she hears dread voices from another world. Iss watches her as she grows to womanhood, eager to discover what powers his ward might possess. As his interest quickens, he sends his living blade, Marafice Eye, to guard her night and day. Raif Sevrance, a young man of Clan Blackhail, also knows he is different, with uncanny abilities that distance him from the clan. But when he and his brother survive an ambush that plunges the entire Northern Territories into war, he yet seeks justice for his own . . . even if means he must forsake clan and kin. Ash and Raif must learn to master their powers and accept their joint fate if they are to defeat an ancient prophecy and prevent the release of the pure evil known as the End Lords. At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

Ash is the Ice Princess in these - but we never get to know if she wins the war because the final book has never been published 😔

Velvetfur Oh no! Why has it never been published, do you know? 6y
Cinfhen That‘s a lot of reading investment not to get a final answer!!!! 😱 6y
Billypar Ugh, that's the worst! Not sure if you're a fan of the band The Kills, but their last album was called 'Ash and Ice'- I wonder if they are fans? 🤔 6y

Cathythoughts Oh for heavens sake 🙄😡. Nice choice though 👍🏻 6y
TrishB @Velvetfur well....hubby‘s friend is the brother of the author so I do actually know!! The last one is written but the author and publisher fell out over the actual book, author wouldn‘t change it, publisher wouldn‘t publish and she has a long term contract so it‘s just sat there. Which is even more annoying!! @Cinfhen @Cathythoughts 6y
TrishB @Billypar not a big fan - but it would be cool if it was after this 👍🏻 6y
Velvetfur @TrishB Oh gosh that's a terrible situation! Your husband has good contacts though 😁 6y
TrishB @Velvetfur sooo weird - I thought I would go and check what she‘s up to and she started posting on social media again on 19 Sept , 8 years after the last book. She is now rewriting it, with new title and fingers crossed! I was meant to look at this today 😁 6y
Cinfhen #bookKarma 😘😘 6y
TrishB @Cinfhen I will excitedly tell hubby later and he will look guilty and say oh I forgot to tell you.....it‘s a sure bet. 6y
Velvetfur @TrishB Ha, spooky! It's the right time of year for it 😂 6y

This is what I immediately think of for #chillyreads. It's an excellent start to an epic fantasy series. The descriptions of the frozen landscape are seriously chill inducing. I read this one last December and am looking forward to continuing the series this winter! #photoadaynov16

The two biggest books I've read so far this year. Both are fantasies of almost 800 pages. And of course I had to pose them on my Robert Jordan shelf. Because reasons. #ilikebigbooks #booktober

A Cavern of Black Ice is excellent to read during winter (especially if you live in the south where it doesn't actually get super cold)!
