"U bračnoj slikovnici bili su savršen par. To je bila priča namijenjena publici."
"They were the perfect couple in the 'marriage picture book'. It was a story intended for the audience."

Few pages of light reading, before go to sleep. Relaxing.

I loved the beginning of the novel. It‘s 2001, and we meet Sonia and her friend Maggie. They‘re in Granada to take salsa classes.
Then the story shifts to Granada before, during and after the Spanish Civil War and how Franco became the leader. In this part we meet the Ramirez family, who consists of Mr. and Mrs. Ramirez and their 3 sons and 1 daughter. In this part Hislop lost me and I‘m not sure how that happened. Cont. ⬇️
Ready to start my fourth book for #MakeMeReadIt.
I read her debut, The Island, and wasn‘t blown away by it. Hope this turns out differently.
Another book club read. I didn‘t really enjoy the writing in this book but it was a good story with a fascinating setting that kept me turning the pages and made me want to visit Granada.
So I REALLY didn‘t need any more books, especially not after the fab book exchange this week, but you know how it is....
The pile of 3 is from Waterstones bargain box, Q9 each, and the others are all from a charity shop....
Next job is to shuffle my shelves as the TBR shelf is already full....
The photo is of a live flamenco show at our hotel on the last night of our holiday.
This book is a great holiday read. It is accessible historical fiction that goes into great detail about the Spanish Civil War. One of the main characters is a flamenco dancer, and the joy and love of dance are strong themes throughout the book.
I think some of the characters are a bit weak but the story is engaging and I feel I learned something.

In Spain reading this book which touches on the Spanish Civil War.
Having read the thread I was really looking forward to reading this book but I didn't grab me in the same way I'm afraid. I really struggled with part 1. I just couldn't get into it but once I got to part 2 I really enjoyed it. Again part 3 I struggled with. overall I'm glad I read it as I didn't know anything about the Spanish civil war so I found the actual story line of that very interesting
