John, Paul, George & Ben
John, Paul, George & Ben | Lane Smith

Once there were four lads...John [Hancock], Paul [Revere], George [Washington], and Ben [Franklin]. Oh yes, there was also Tom [Jefferson], but he was annoyingly independent and hardly ever around. These lads were always getting into trouble for one reason or another. In other words, they took a few...liberties. And to be honest, they were not always appreciated. This is the story of five little lads before they became five really big Founding Fathers.

This HF book utilizes humor and assigns quirky traits for each founding father, telling their story with a twist. John Hancock is bold (his large signature on the Declaration of Independence), Paul Revere is loud (his memorable “The British are coming“), George Washington is honest (the cherry tree incident), Benjamin Franklin is clever (his inventions/wittiness), and Thomas Jefferson is independent (he loved to write about liberty). The humor

Vooks does a great job of telling this story visually. UDL 1.1 Offer ways of customizing the display of information and EL 27 Highlight written materials for readability by enlarging the size print are satisfied as Vooks enlargens/bolds the words as they are read. This helps students see what word is being read. 5y
DrSpalding Vooks are fantastic. Grate idea to include them here. Read aloud during SS instruction.... YES. (edited) 5y

I would read this book to second graders and up when giving a little history lesson on people who had a huge impact on shaping America. It is a silly, yet informative book on US history that has beautiful illustrations. Definitely love this book and would use it inside of my classroom!

This is a historical fiction book about John Hancock, Paul Revere, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin & George Washington. It is about them as young kids. This book describes why each of those men are important, but in a way that young children can understand. It is a simple read. The book tells a good story and accurately depicts what happened in real life with a few fictional facts added. It is a great read for young kids about history.

This Historical Fiction book is okay. I like how it has a fact check in the back of the book that tells you if what was said in the book was true or not. I did not however think it uses the values of the four men properly.

I would not use this book in my classroom because it is not serious enough to me. I think that the facts are right, but there is too much play being done in the book to really gain any information.
