This MF work of literary art was a large part of my children as well as many children across the world. The Harry Potter series is centered around a young orphan boy who finds out he is a wizard on his 11th birthday. He is accepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and off he goes, he meets his friends Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger, and he has many perilous adventures. Harry was scarred by the evil Lord Voldemort at 18 months

Kyleigh_J when Lord Voldemort killed his parents and attempted to kill him. The whole series builds to the long-awaited face-off between Lord Voldemort and Harry. This New York Times Best Seller is absolutely amazing from beginning to end, I would recommend it to absolutely any reader. I would recommend this book to be used as an LC as students would enjoy reading it and talking about it with their peers. NEA has a great Webquest resource for students. 4y
Kyleigh_J http://web.archive.org/web/20110505121800/http://www.troy.k12.oh.us:80/depts/gif... Students can dive more into the world of Harry Potter as they complete this Webquest. UDL 4.2 optimize access to tools and assistive technologies is utilized as children are using technology to asses and increase their understanding of Harry Potter and his wizarding world. 4y
Kyleigh_J EL 29 offer a variety of reference materials at the students‘ instructional level

This B Caldecott and Coretta Scott King Winner is a beautifully told story of MLK Jr's life. This book is centered around words and showcases the power of words in a time of racism and oppression. This book recounts MLK's accomplishments and his work in a simple way for children to understand. I would utilize this book as a GR so that I could help the students with difficult vocabulary and help guide their discussions of the book. #UCFLAE3414SP20

Kyleigh_J Doreen Rappaport's website has a great teacher's guide for this book. https://www.teachingbooks.net/media/pdf/SingleBGs/BigWordsGuide.pdf In this guide teachers can find guided questions as well as how to connect this book to the curriculum, which is super helpful for classroom application. UDL 6.3 facilitate managing information and resources is satisfied as many of the activities require students to conduct their own research on the topics. 4y

EL 36 ask numerous questions which require higher level thinking responses is fulfilled by the guided questions portion of the resource. This HF Young Reader's Choice Award and Newbery Honor Winner is a tale about a family man, Mr. Popper. One day, while the family is listening to the radio, they hear from a mysterious adventurer who promises them a surprise. Soon they receive a penguin and name him Captain Cook. Captain Cook's health begins to fail so they get him a companion, a female penguin named Greta. Not long after the couple has 10 baby penguins and a lot of mouths to feed.

Kyleigh_J This novel is truly an enjoyable read as the Poppers' situation is very unique and hilarious so it is perfect for an RA. There is 20 chapters in the book, so the teacher could read one a day or one half a day. Scholastic has great activities to go with this book, including a great KWL chart about penguins that should be done prior to reading.

Pickpick

This F Caldecott winner is a classic that I remember from Elementary school. Strega Nona (which means Grandma Witch) is a woman who uses potions and her “magic touch“ to help the people in her town in Calabria. Big Anthony is Strega Nona's assistant and although he means well, his inability to pay attention gets him into a huge mess. He breaks her one rule and touches the pasta pot, resulting in a gigantic pasta mess that only Strega Nona can fix.

Kyleigh_J This book is perfect for an RA as students might need help understanding the book. This video is a great resource to show after the RA, since it includes pictures and videos of the illustrations as the story is read. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGVXwMX0e5w&vl=en

This SF New York Times Best Seller is first in the Hunger Games series which is set in a dystopian society in North America that consists of 12 districts. Every year, children from each district are pulled from a lottery to compete in a grudge match to the death called the Hunger Games. The book follows Katniss Everdeen who volunteers to compete in the games in order to save her sister. This book is truly captivating from cover to cover.

Kyleigh_J This book would be ideal for a IR, with assignments to asses for comprehension. Scholastic has great resources for the entire series including a fantastic book talk video to motivate students to read and participate in conversations about the book. http://teacher.scholastic.com/resources/hunger-games-for-teachers/ UDL 9.1 promote expectations and beliefs that optimize motivation could be satisfied as teachers set expectations for students' reading 4y

This TL book is a hilarious spin on the traditional Jack and the Beanstalk. Similar to Jack, there is still a singing harp, golden chicken/eggs, magic beans and climbing of the beanstalk. Kate is smart, resourceful, and fearless as she outsmarts the giant and returns all of the stolen belongings to the magic fairy in disguise. In the end, she learns that her family lived in the castle before the giant and the items actually belong to them!

Kyleigh_J This book is FANTASTIC for a S and is a great feminist spin on the original! This S is absolutely phenomenal and should be shared with a class so that they can truly enjoy this story. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FiQRuz0kReU She is so animated, her props are hilarious, and the S is enjoyable for all. This SF book is about a society that has removed colors, emotions, and memories from the lives of their people in order to achieve “sameness“ or total equality. The story follows a boy named Jonas who is chosen to store the memories of the past before “sameness“. Jonas's journey from that point on is truly enthralling to the reader as he encounters the truth about his society, many new emotions, and so much more. AMAZING book for upper elementary!

Kyleigh_J I read this book in elementary school with a LC, and I think it was perfect. Students can discuss the book in length and share opinions and predictions in a small group setting. Scholastic has great whole-class activities that could be adapted to small groups, for example writing a final chapter to the book. https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/lesson-plans/teaching-content/giver-lesson-p... 4y

This HF book utilizes humor and assigns quirky traits for each founding father, telling their story with a twist. John Hancock is bold (his large signature on the Declaration of Independence), Paul Revere is loud (his memorable “The British are coming“), George Washington is honest (the cherry tree incident), Benjamin Franklin is clever (his inventions/wittiness), and Thomas Jefferson is independent (he loved to write about liberty). The humor
