I enjoyed this.
No horror, no jumpscares, but a slight uncanniness throughout the book... Sadly, none of the classic stories of Oiwa, Otsuyu or Okiku are included (though that's Okiku on the cover.) But then, it's really refreshing to read some new, relatively unknown stories where you don't know what to expect. 👍
This was my last book for #readyoursign - it has the moon on its back cover (prompt 5 - ruling planet on the cover)
"'Once a worker's soul has been removed, they stop complaining,' O-Mitsu said. 'They lose their laziness too, and their greed. That childlike nature that wants to go out and play . . . That's why all those employed by the Kaneko'ya turn into the sort of worker that other stores are always on the lookout for. They don't get sick. They don't get injured. But this is because they've become beings that are only half alive.'"
