My BookOutlet order came! Much faster shipping than normal this time. I approve!

I've already read EVERYBODY, EVERYBODY and UPDRAFT but wanted my own copies. Anybody have any thoughts on any of the other titles?

Paperback.Propensity Oh I am dying for The Weight of Feathers. I liked Vassa in the Night. Some people thought it was too weird but it was right up my alley. I loved The Love That Split the World. I related to the main character a lot. However I found most people weren't really feeling it. It is one of my favorite YA's though. (edited) 7y
silentrequiem @Paperback.Propensity I'm really looking forward to Vassa in the Night. I adore fairy tale retellings! The Love that Spilt the World looks so good. 7y
Paperback.Propensity I hope you enjoy them! I think on the back of Vassa in the Night, or on the inside is a review that mentions it will be good for fans of Grimm's fairy tales rather than Disney. I agree with that. 7y

silentrequiem @Paperback.Propensity Fantastic. I like my fairy tales dark and with a veneer of danger. 7y
moranadatter A lot of those are on my TBR! Unfortunately, the only one I've opened is Everfair, which I DNFed. I found it hard to care about a story told in brief vignettes with huge time gaps between them. 7y
silentrequiem @moranadatter I hopefully like it better. I have to be in the right mood, though, for a more thinky fiction book. 7y
moranadatter @silentrequiem I hope so too. I'll be interested to hear what you think of it when you get to it. 7y

I really liked this dystopian fiction written by and about First Peoples. The setting felt very authentic and I loved the main character. I liked the first half better than the second, which seemed to have too much plot shoved in it. Still, this was a unique and enjoyable reading experience.

Oh no disappointing book! This has such a cool concept (200 years in the future, there's a plague only Indigenous people have the antibodies for) but the execution needs tons of work. The plotting is non-existent, then a bunch of things happen that make no sense. The characterization is terrible; even the main character has no discernible personality. The world-building is super underdeveloped and doesn't inform the plot at all. Ugh, so sad.

Chasingmermaids See I liked it. But that's because I had just finished reading a bunch of dystopian flops for class that it made it good. If I read it on my own I might feel the same as you. 7y
CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian I can totally see how other people might like it, especially in contrast to other books! For me by the time I was two thirds in I was so fed up it probably couldn't have done anything to win me over. 7y

Some artistic renditions of the two-headed sea serpent that just attacked Cass, the main character, and deposited pearls into her belly! The sisiult is a mythological creature in a few west coast Indigenous cultures, including the Squamish, Kwakwaka'wakw, and Nuu-chah-nulth. #NativeReads

Have I mentioned that I love being a library school student and how reading this #Indigenous #YA book is my "work" today? Also I made a fancy breakfast to reward myself for going to the gym. #NativeReads

LiteraryinLawrence That's the best kind of work! And the fact that you love it will make you a great librarian. 7y

Different from most dystopian novels. Not fully formed in some areas but moving and powerful despite that.
