God Went to Beauty School
God Went to Beauty School | Cynthia Rylant
1 post | 3 read
A deeply compelling collection of poems about God and our everyday world from a Newbery medalist. Cynthia Rylant takes teens on an invigorating spiritual journey as she explores what God's life on Earth might be like. Rylant's reflective and often humorous verse follows God as he tries out human activities such as getting a dog, writing a fan letter, and making spaghetti. God Went to Beauty School combines the awesome with the everyday in an accessible, thought–provoking, and intelligent manner.

Pickpick

This short chapter book is filled with poems (P) about God doing everyday things we do: God woke up, God got arrested, God made spaghetti. This book is for an older audience such as 6th grade and would be a book that students would choose since it does have a religious theme. This Boston Globe Honor book would be great for partner reading because the students could take turns reading stanzas and interpreting them. #UCFLAE3414SP18

Laura.S Https://www.teachingbooks.net/tb.cgi?tid=46521&a=1 The link takes you to some resources about the author such as interviews. UDL 2.3, support decoding of text aligns because poetry often requires students to decode and interpret texts. EL 38, assign short readings for homework, aligns because each poem is no longer than 2 pages. This book is great because it depicts a figure such as God, doing every day things which helps to relate us to him. 6y
JordanL This is an interesting Poem book, your homework for EL fits perfectly due to size of the poems, great idea! 6y

morganhillman This sounds amazing!! I definitely want to get this and read it! I think it would be great for children to read some simple, but important poems like this. 6y
