It was nice to revisit it and read it again after so many years. I am happy to say that it feels even more relevant than ever before, still super easy to read and very thought-provoking. Highly recommended!

Check out our discussion about it on the Mind Duck Books podcast ep.72 : https://bit.ly/4ezhvSk

#OnThisDay in 1921 Karel Čapek's R.U.R premiered in Hradec Králové and left an indelible stamp on the future of science fiction. How? R.U.R stands for Rossumovi Univerzální Roboti, and marks the invention of the term "robot". Ever read a sci-fi story about robots/machines/AI taking over and/or enslaving humanity? You can thank Čapek for that. #HistoryGetsLIT

I'm always delighted to find literary references in Pop Culture! The robot only planet in Futurama named for the author of RUR is such a quiet, excellent nod to literature! #futurama #literaryreference #literaryallusion #popculture #robot #classicliterature #literaryclassic #classic

This piece of classic literature is a must-read for fans of robotics and scifi. R.U.R. is the origin of the term and concept of robot. In the case of this book, it was a commentary on slavery. #robot #robotorigin #robotics

Credited with introducing the word “robot“ to the English language, Karel Capek's 1920 play “R.U.R.“ -- Rossum's Universal Robots -- features robots built to be efficient servants for humanity. But unrest is brewing. Read it in 6 issues with Serial Reader! 🤖

Mehso-so

Meh? I'm sure this was groundbreaking in its time, and since then it's been echoed in so much later fiction, but I don't get the bit with all the men wanting to marry Helena or why she agrees or... Anything about the characters.
