Husband and I went on a babymoon and that‘s when I got this gem. This is a love story about writer Mary Frances who is married to Al and having an affair with his best friend Tim. This story is told in a very poetic way, but not overly so to where it makes it hard to follow. Also, I absolutely loved the way that food was used to talk about the hunger that Mary Frances had in her life, love, and work.
panI can honestly say that I found no compassion for anyone in this book...no one at all.
What I did like was the description of the food, it was colourful and delightful. In my honest opinion, don‘t waste your money or time with this book.
How is it possible that I missed this book when it came out? This is an absolutely gorgeous, sensual, beautifully written novel about MFK Fisher's affair with her husband's best friend. Food, sex, glamorous travel, and the real-life story of a woman writer I knew little about...what's not to like?
Did I mention that the writing is GORGEOUS? I read that the author spent ten years researching and writing it, and I believe it.
So weird realization I just had! I started reading the last Mrs. Parrish then I decided to also start the arrangement which also has main characters with the last name Parrish! Spooky!!
"The elements that mattered most were the simple ones: butter, salt, a thick plate of white china and a delicate glass, the music faint, the feel of paper in her hand, and the knowledge that there was more, always more book to read, more wine if she liked it, some cold fruit in the refrigerator..."
Stayed up late finishing Wolf Hall, and the sequel Bring Up The Bodies is due to be delivered later today. Can't wait that long to start another book though!
pickLoved this fictional account of the years in which MFK Fisher was still married to her first husband, Al, but getting more & more entangled with Tim. Perfect for fans; Warlick captured Fisher beautifully. Not sure how those new to Fisher would react. Cassandra Campbell is awesome on audiobook
