Who knew the life of a penny could be so exciting?Born in 1983, our copper (well, zinc and copper as we find out) narrator travels everywhere from New York City to Portland, Oregon, to Puerto Rico describing in colorful detail his many adventures along the way.Randy Siegel's quirky, informative text mixed with Serge Bloch's spare but exuberant illustrations (which make use of real pennies) make this book a must-have for lovers of American history or just a good story.A Neal Porter Book

#bookmail | Can‘t wait to crack these open with my boys! My 6.5 year old is super into NF so I swapped out the two books originally chosen for him for these. These are technically his books (our selections are for 6-8yrs), but he shares with little bro. 💚

Reviewsbylola Those both look cool! We‘re super into non fiction here too. Right now they‘re especially liking the “I Am” series. Which those books are loooooooong. 5y
britt_brooke @Reviewsbylola We haven‘t tried any of the “I Am” ones yet, but that‘s good to know! 5y
Reviewsbylola I try and skip the dialogue bubbles but sometimes you need them to explain the text. They‘re by far the longest picture books we have. It takes me at least 20 minutes to read one of them and of course both kids picked one before bed the other night. 🤦🏼‍♀️ 5y

The nonfiction story of a penny and all of its endeavors. This book takes you on a journey about a particular penny born in 1983 in Philadelphia and details everything this penny goes through in its daily life. Randy Siegel did a tremendous job writing this but the illustrations by Serge Bloch were also beautiful. The link is to a pretty interesting site about pennies www.designlife-cycle.com/us-penny/ #UCFLAE3414sp17

DrSpalding What a cool book! Using this book could help you meet Social Studies or Math standards! 7y
CaitlinPVeal This would be a great way to connect math and reading. If you teach a money lesson at the beginning of the day, and read the book at the end of the day then that would be a great way to reinforce the concept. On the website I saw many facts, and an example of a project. This would be a great aid for students to look at if they had to do a project based on this book. 7y
AlanaA Math and social studies concepts would go great with this book. I really like the source you use with this book too so kids can get a little more background info on the penny(: 7y

I love that different editions of the penny are described as the parents, grandparents, and great-uncle of the main character penny! #kidlit #picturebooks

I LOVED this ARC! A day in the life of a penny? Yes please! Lots of facts about pennies and fun illustrations by Serge Bloch (how come he's not credited with the book title?) This one comes out in January. You'll want it. #kidlit #picturebooks

Daisydo I want this. :) 7y
