This fiction book by Jamie Lee Curtis is great for kids to understand that feeling different moods is okay! Here is a fun read aloud of this book: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Vsce9XeNyug #UCFLAE3414sp17

CaitlinPVeal I love this! I would use this in a class that has a child with an emotional disorder that could help the other students understand different types of feelings. 8y
Alisoncavicchi One of my SL teachers started class with this and the kids ate it up! They love the rich images. This read aloud requires a lot of passion and emotion from the teacher to make it engaging :) 8y
DrSpalding Wonderful peer comments. Jamie Lee Curtis does an excellent job with her books as you shared in your author study Alana. What kind of fiction? 8y
Maya.A This sounds like a great book to read to students who may be having a hard day in class. Sounds like a great book! 8y

"She would have her work cut out for her to make everyone believe she was innocent." This bobble-head nonfiction book by Joan Holub gave so many interesting facts about the Salem witch trials. To learn more visit: http://www.ducksters.com/history/colonial_america/salem_witch_trials.php #UCFLAE3414sp17

krystag I have always seen these books but never read one! I think they would be great to supply informative text in the classroom, especially since they are packed with facts and aren't too long! 8y
haiimelanie This book looks really interesting, I'd love to learn more about the Salem witch trials from reading it. Were there any major facts? 8y
DrSpalding Proud of you for selecting this one. Ducksters is a good site to add to your KSM in this particular historical content! 8y
ericai i definitely want to start reading these books! they seem like a great way to get students motivated to read nonfiction 8y

This Dr. Seuss fantasy is not as difficult to read as some other books of his. He still includes the silly words, but I think that with the pictures and repetition, it would be a good starter Dr. Seuss book. Here is a little activity to get those wiggles out while you read this book to your kiddos: http://www.pbslearningmedia.org/resource/d6e2018d-edec-4386-abf1-275e22c3b9bf/ma... #UCFLAE3414sp17

DrSpalding PBS is another quality source for educational activities! Nice! 8y
Alisoncavicchi This is a Dr. Seuss book I have actually never heard of! I love the resource and after looking into the book I agree it is a great tool for beginning readers and basic lessons! 8y

While reading this fantasy by Dr. Seuss I was thinking how useful this book would be while teaching students how to write their own fiction pieces. Here is a link to learn a little more about the art of storytelling: http://www.mensaforkids.org/teach/lesson-plans/the-art-of-storytelling/ #UCFLAE3414sp17

DrSpalding What a wonderful link to share! I will model storytelling tomorrow! 8y
DrSpalding I am also proud of you for making the purchase. These will be great additions to your classroom library. 8y

Wonder | R. J. Palacio

"We're kind of like Beauty and the Beast"
R.J. Palacio really understands children throughout her realistic fiction novel Wonder. For more information about mandibulofacial dysostosis visit: https://g.co/kgs/dIxBzz #UCFLAE3414sp17

DrSpalding Great connection to Beauty and the Beast! The new movie is coming out and will reach a new generation! 8y
AnastasiaH What a touching quote that gives some insight into the story! Now I want to read it even more. The link you provided is also very informative about the mandibulofacial dystosis. 8y

"And they very next thing the poor animal knew, a bobcat and turtle were living with there too! NOW what was the big-hearted moose going to do?" This Dr. Seuss fantasy has a underlying theme of karma and if you are nice/mean to others it will eventually come back around. Here is the Seussville website that has games, books, and activities: http://m.seussville.com/index.html #UCFLAE3414sp17

krystag This is one book I have never read by Dr. Suess but recently picked up at Kohls! I'll definitely have to read, especially since I have the plush too! The website is great for interactive fun for those students that like games and hands-on activities while learning about such a famous author and his characters! (edited) 8y
DrSpalding His site is amazing. Makes a great literacy station! So happy to hear of you buying books at Kohl's @krystag 🙂📚 8y
AlexandriaJ I am with @krystag on this one! I recently went and bought all of the Dr. Suess books that were at Kohl's since I won The Sneetches and Other Stories in class. I chose this specific website for my book as well because it has a variety of things that children can choose from and is very intriguing to a younger audience! 8y

Dancing in the Wings | Debbie Allen

This fiction book had a wonderful message about being yourself and having confidence! I would definitely read this book to my students because self-love is important at any age. Here is an activity that teachers could use after reading this book about different confidence activities: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Self-Esteem-for-Girls-1784307 #UCFLAE3414sp17

AnastasiaH Confidence activities are an awesome thing to use in the classroom! Young people often need a reminder that they are good enough, especially when that self-doubt sets in. This is such a nice way to encourage students. 8y
DrSpalding Debbie Allen is a wonderful dancer and Kadir is an amazing illustrator! 8y

This fable was very sweet, but I feel like it did not have much of a message behind it. Leo Lionni's illustrations were very creative though! Here is a link to discover different activities to do in your classroom with various books by Lionni: http://mermaidtheatre.ca/PDF/swimmy/Swimmy-ResourceGuide.pdf #UCFLAE3414sp17

DrSpalding A simple, sweet story....sometimes that's all you need. I think it promotes creativity! I had first graders create their own rabbits wth wallpaper scraps! 8y

The Kissing Hand | Audrey Penn
post image

"A secret? What kind of secret?"
The Kissing Hand is a beautifully written fable by Audrey Penn that would be a great beginning of the school year read aloud. I also found this link on YouTube to a read aloud of this book in Spanish so all children can enjoy its sweet message: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=moHShE4E2_w #UCFLAE3414sp17

Rachelgoff Hi Alana! I read this story as well, and really enjoyed it! It was definitely beautifully written. I agree that this would be a good book to read aloud at the beginning of the school year. I loved that you incorporated a Spanish version of this book! 8y
DrSpalding How wonderful to find the Spanish version. In my copy I brought to class, there is an actual kissing hand from a kindergarten student inside!❤️ 8y

This book is a wonderful biography that remembers the twin towers and their legacy in a way that may have been forgotten. Here is some more info about the man who walked between the towers: https://www.theguardian.com/culture/gallery/2015/oct/01/philippe-petit-walk-betw... #ucflae3414sp17

krystag I really would love to read this book! This book would be great to read to bring Social Studies into the classroom by not only talking about the main character and how he is a real person, but also the history of the Twin Towers in a more emotionally sensitive way. Definitely on my list of books to read! (edited) 8y
DrSpalding Alana your resource is exceptional! How wonderful to connect the book to the real life event! Remember to identify it as a BIOGRAPHY. @krystag you are right! This is an excellent book for Social Studies. 8y
Alisoncavicchi I love the resource you connected to this text! The history of this event is so vital for children growing up in our world today, and this book would be a great starting point for a social studies lesson! 8y

This book is the story of the Three Little Pigs in the eyes of the "big bad wolf". Students will like the change of pace of this traditional tale! I included a lesson plan to use with this book from ReadWriteThink.org - I think it can help by teaching students about retelling stories http://www.readwritethink.org/classroom-resources/lesson-plans/wolf-analyzing-po...
#UCFLAE3414sp17

Alisoncavicchi I remember reading this in elementary school myself and I loved it because it was so different from the original story we are exposed to. I think it's an excellent way to show different perspectives and teach a lesson narration/point of view 8y
DrSpalding Point of view is an important skill! Excellent folklore variant with an effective lesson! Well done! 8y
