In books we experience all life vicariously

@LeahBergen I‘m loving this book! Your reviews often make me look for out of print books and authors and if I find one I‘m so excited they jump to the top of my TBR. The local library had one, nearly falling apart, copy of this 😇

charl08 I love this quote. 2y

I‘ve been spending a few of my weekend hours with this oldie and it‘s charming.

Jocelyn Irwin returns from the Boer War with an injured leg and no prospects and decides to pay an extended visit to his grandparents in a cathedral town. There he romps with his delightful niece and nephew, falls in love, and (almost accidentally) opens a bookshop in a mysterious little old house. It‘s pure froth and pure fun. 💚

I don‘t think I can adequately describe how much I loved this book! A quaint village with ringing bells, a beautiful but abandoned old house with a mystery, a bookshop, and a love story. You can't help but fall in love with little Henrietta and the way she sees the world. There's so much to love about this book that I actually hugged it when I finished reading. I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

batsy That sounds lovely! 6y

Picking up my first Elizabeth Goudge novel. So far so good. Her writing and descriptions of the surroundings are absolutely beautiful. Her characters are very well done, as well. I'm very excited to read more from her. #elizabethgoudge #books #britishliterature #currentlyreading
