The Empty Pot | Demi
15 posts | 10 read | 1 to read
The Empty Pot is Demi's beloved picture book about an honest schoolboy A long time ago in China there was a boy named Ping who loved flowers. Anything he planted burst into bloom. The Emperor loved flowers too. When it was time to choose an heir, he gave a flower seed to each child in the kingdom. "Whoever can show me their best in a year's time," he proclaimed, "shall succeed me to the throne!" Ping plants his seed and tends it every day. But month after month passes, and nothing grows. When spring comes, Ping must go to the Emperor with nothing but an empty pot. Demi's exquisite art and beautifully simple text show how Ping's embarrassing failure is turned triumphant in this satisfying tale of honesty rewarded. An IRA-CBC Children's Choice. An American Bookseller "Pick of the Lists."

This story has a great message of being honest and doing the right thing, even though it may feel embarrassing or hard to do.

This is a Chinese folktale about a boy who is trying to plant flowers. The emperor needs someone to take over, so he gave out seeds to see who could grow the best flower and that hold be the new emitter. The boy tried many different ways to get his flower to grow but could not. Everyone brought flowers but he brought an empty pot. It turns out the seeds were no good and he was the only honest one so he got chosen.

I really loved how the illustrations were only in a small circle in the middle of each page and the rest was a basic color to make the illustration pop. I really loved this book and think it‘s great for children to read

This story tells a moral tale about a Chinese tradition. Ping does his best to impress the emperor like all the others but does just so by being honest and trying his best.

Traditional literature, published 1990. This book tells the story of children in China who were given a challenge to plant the best special seeds and flowers in a years time to succeed the Emperor‘s throne. I love the way this story portrays one boy in particular who came to the emperor with an empty pot.
