This book is in the public domain so you can find it for free online but this one I got from Hoopla anyway. an incredible capture of a time gone by, of growing up in a harem on the island country of Zanzibar (her father was the sultan of Oman & Zanzibar.)

Pictured is the orange cardamom white hot chocolate I made tonight!

I've been reading this memoir by Salamah bint Said (aka Emily Ruete), Princess of Zanzibar, from the 19th century. Her father was the sultan of Zanzibar and Oman. Then I open Instagram to find Anthony Bourdain is in Oman!

lynneamch My husband's not a big reader (would rather fish & golf--or even watch golf) but he has read all Anthony Bourdain books. We got to see him several years ago (Tennessee Theatre, I think). Would love to have him take me to dinner. 🙄 8y

Irenadawn I have a photographer friend who spent her summer vacation in Oman ! That year she posted the most beautiful photos ! Oman looks magical and unreal in those photos . In one photo the marble walk up to a domed castle was separated by a pool of water with water fountains placed throughout . The color of the water was freshwater and it looked like she was walking on water up to the castle. So mythical and amazing was Oman . 8y
