I was curious how the books compare to the Charlie Chan movies. Surprisingly, I didn‘t have a strong picture of Chan as I read this. He was just one of a number of characters, and I didn‘t find as much detail of his investigations. There is quite a lot of description about 1930s and past Hawaii/Honolulu, however.
The story itself is really kind of a downer, (maybe a little noir?) so while it was interesting, I wouldn‘t say I enjoyed it.
