Quiet Chaos
Quiet Chaos | Sandro Veronesi
9 posts | 7 read | 8 to read
The winner of the Strega Prize, Italy’s top literary award, and the basis of an internationally acclaimed motion picture, Quiet Chaos is now available in America. Author Sandro Veronesi, whose work has been glowingly compared to the novels of Ian McEwan and Martin Amis, dazzles with this powerfully compelling, often darkly funny story of a television producer whose world is misshapen by ironic tragedy. An unforgettable contemporary fable about stepping out of life after it cruelly turns everything upside-down, and finding a resolution to the unsolvable problem of loss in the beauty and strangeness of the everyday, Quiet Chaos is another literary wonder from the author of The Force of the Past.

Loved it, loved it! Paolo, a 40 something tv producer from Milan, suddenly loses his fiancée. He spends weeks sitting in his car in front of his daughter's school while she's in there and tries to face the tragedy that has just happened. Very powrefull and extremely well written novel!

BarbaraBB I loved this one too. So good. 2y

When his wife dies, Pietro needs to find a way to cope with this new reality. When he drops his daughter Claudia off for school, he decides to wait outside for her all day in his car. And then every day. To protect her and himself. To wait for grief to strike. As time goes by, the small parking lot becomes his refuge from the world as well as the place where family and colleagues come to relieve their own suffering. Great read!

BarbaraBB @TrishB it is actually less sad than you might think, based on what I wrote above! 6y
BarbaraBB @Tamra @vivastory I think you two might like it. It is really good and, somehow, optimistic. 6y

My parents are staying with me for the holidays and insist on watching TV whenever we are together. I am developing a whole new set of skills in reading despite the noise! #familyandChristmas any coping advice? 😋😉

JackieSmith I'd take them to a bookstore & then hide somewhere. 7y
TrishB Long baths 😄 always been my tactic! Especially when you really need to finish a book in peace! 7y
tricours Headphones. I have to use them daily to read on the sofa while my bf has the tv on in the background. 7y

The hardest part of quoting this is that it's all just basically stream of consciousness -- which is great, but it's full of sentences that last half a page.
