Animal Liberation (2002)
Animal Liberation (2002) | Peter Singer
The Book That Started A RevolutionSince its original publication in 1975, this groundbreaking work has awakened millions of concerned men and women to the shocking abuse of animals everywhere -- inspiring a worldwide movement to eliminate much of the cruel and unnecessary laboratory animal experimentation of years past. In this newly revised and expanded edition, author Peter Singer exposes the chilling realities of today's "factory forms" and product-testing procedures -- offering sound, humane solutions to what has become a profound environmental and social as well as moral issue. An important and persuasive appeal to conscience, fairness, decency and justice, "Animal Liberation" is essential reading for the supporter and the skeptic alike.

A wonderfully written comprehensive account of the arguments against using and abusing non human animals. A book that appeals to reason rather than emotions and that employs emotive language minimally. The philosophy visited throughout the book is made accessible and digestible to all. I am in awe of this book and of Peter Singer‘s writing and dedication to the cause of animals rights. I hope enough of us will have the open mind to read it.

#LitsyPSA: This is $2.99 as a Kindle ebook, and I think it‘s in sale for other formats. I read this years ago and I was about one book away from giving up all meat. It probably would have been more impactful if I didn‘t have a deep love of pork. However, it has informed many decisions I‘ve made over the years about what I eat and how I think about animals. If you‘re squeamish, be prepared, but you should read this anyway. We can do better.

I have just finished Peter Singer's Animal Liberation. As the father of the modern animal rights movement you can't argue against his position. He quotes Jeremy Bentham in the last chapter saying it is not a question of can they reason or talk, but can they suffer? This is not an easy read but then again books like these never are.

This book encompasses such a good argument. This is one part of it.

I've been meaning to read this for years. Animal rights has been an important issue to me for years. I move between vegetarianism and pescatarianism and have done for years, not eating anything more than fish in around four years now. I realise that this is not perfect and would like to maintain full vegetarianism. Wherever you lie on this argument I think we can agree that it makes sense to try and be good to our fellow creatures. #animalrights

I don't think I could've woken up to better news on my 38th birthday! First, they retired the elephants. And now, no more animals will be exploited and forced to do tricks for an audience, at least under a Ringling Bros. tent.

The world is changing!

LauraBeth I loved that when I opened my eyes this morning the first thing I saw was this news alert 8y

Excited to read this. Not sure why the line spacing is so abysmal in this edition, but whatever.
