Into the Vietnamese Kitchen
Into the Vietnamese Kitchen: Treasured Foodways, Modern Flavors | Andrea Nguyen
3 posts | 5 to read
An intimate collection of more than 175 of the finest Vietnamese recipes. When author Andrea Nguyen's family was airlifted out of Saigon in 1975, one of the few belongings that her mother hurriedly packed for the journey was her small orange notebook of recipes. Thirty years later, Nguyen has written her own intimate collection of recipes, INTO THE VIETNAMESE KITCHEN, an ambitious debut cookbook that chronicles the food traditions of her native country. Robustly flavored yet delicate, sophisticated yet simple, the recipes include steamy pho noodle soups infused with the aromas of fresh herbs and lime; rich clay-pot preparations of catfish, chicken, and pork; classic bnh m sandwiches; and an array of Vietnamese charcuterie. Nguyen helps readers shop for essential ingredients, master core cooking techniques, and prepare and serve satisfying meals, whether for two on a weeknight or 12 on a weekend.

Cooked a new dish out of this cookbook. I chose it to clean out items in my kitchen. Winter squash and yam with cilantro in coconut milk. I added half a tomato and half jalapeno, a couple slices of ginger, chili paste some fish sauce. And lots more cilantro. Turned out quite good, with an added splash of lime juice. Now if only my Vietnamese authored books would come in at the library! #foodandlit @Butterfinger @Texreader

This is the cookbook I rely on for Pho. Tip: if you decide to make pho; make a big batch of broth. It freezes well and then making some pho bowls can be an easy weeknight dinner. This weekend I will be making some stewed winter squash/yam with coconut milk and cilantro. #foodandlit @Texreader @Butterfinger #vietnam

$9 for 4 Kindle Cookbooks? I'd say it's a steal. In my righteous indignation over the fact that my Tokyo cookbook I bought through Google play last year cannot be read through Amazon Kindles, I decided to treat myself to a couple new cookbooks to add to my cooking repertoire. Can't wait to try these!! #EmilysCulinaryAdventuresAroundtheWorld 🤓🍱🍷🍚
