Loved this conclusion of the companion to “The Silence of the Girls.”‘While the SOTG was before the fall of Troy and during it, this one takes place after the Greeks conquered the Trojans, and what the fates of the Trojan women at the hands of the Greeks.

SO good! Can‘t choose a favorite between ARIADNE or ELEKTRA- I love that both provide alternative perspective to women in mythology who do not have a voice other than through their male counterparts and male story tellers.

✨It‘s good to be back ✨ the last 9 months have been a roller coaster at work, where I am honestly just ✨surviving✨ until Librarians finish on 6/6. There might be a lot of changes coming up, but I am thankful for rest, reading, & healing 📚While I have been MIA for a while, I have read quite a bit, thanks to my Youth Lit grad course, & then some. Soon I‘ll gather all that I have read while I have been out of commission, & share with you all 💙

This is my first read from the Texas Book Challenges List, one of a couple I hope to read & finish over Spring Break. Banning books will not erase the power of any of the books on the list, but instead encourages readers to read & acquire the books in any way they can to discover the stories , while there are those in power seeking to censor. ⚠️Trigger warnings ⚠️ will be at the end of my review ➡️ https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/4606104984

My knowledge on the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Cold War is very limited, and I am thankful to read Margarita Engle‘s childhood experiences growing up in two different cultures and countries. This memoir has encouraged me to search for other memoirs of the author‘s experiences during this time period.

Written as a Novel in Verse, it is the story of Sophie Scholl, one of the leaders of the White Rose youth resistance groups who spread information against Hitler and his regime. There are not many books available about Sophie, and only recently some have been writtwn for the YA audience. I have never read anything like this, and I highly recommend it!

Hello all! I have been MIA due to work stress AND my major project for my Children‘s and Teen‘s grad class, a book trailer over “We are not free” by Traci Chee. It‘s a 1:55 video so it won‘t take long to watch! ☺️https://thediverseshelvesbookreviews.blogspot.com/2022/03/young-adult-book-trailer-we-are-not.html

Nute Excellent video! Your students are lucky to have you as their teacher. There must be exposure to accurate tellings of history and then participation in work to make things better for all people. (edited) 2y

I‘ve never read any of Jaqueline Woodson‘s books, and now I‘m at a loss for why I haven‘t until now! I listened to this one over audiobook on SCRIBD and would listen to it as I was driving to/ from work, and when cleaning the house- when I couldn‘t listen to it, my mind was still on Lonnie‘s story.
After I finish “Promise, Lonnie” I am going to explore Woodson‘s other books to listen to on audiobook.

Bklover I recently bought Red at the Bone at the suggestion of a friend who manages a nearby BN. He said it‘s one of the best fiction books he‘s ever read. I‘m going to have to read that one soon. 2y

When I found out there was a retelling of the fairy tale, “The Goose Girl”, I nabbed my local library‘s copy before you could say Pfennigeist ( you will know this name from the book). I fell in love with Shannon Hale‘s retelling of “The Goose Girl” back in 2005, and this retelling was icing on the “fairy tale retelling” cake, and just what I needed to read, seventeen years later.⬇️

Emily92Bibliophile ➡️ It was even better than I would have imagined.
While I couldn‘t get into “The Merciful Crow” by Owen, I am thankful I didn‘t give up on the author, and now I have to wait until book 2 is released!
Give this book a try- you won‘t regret it!

Do you judge a book by its cover? This title is a great example for how my motivation to read a book can depend on my interest of the cover 🪞 I had a half price mass market paperback of this same title on my shelves for 5+ years,& despite all what I heard about it, I had no motivation. After reading “The Reading List” I bought this copy, with a cover I like, & have FLOWN through it 🌊🚤 🪨 🌊 Even when I have already seen the movie, I‘m hooked!

This series was a bit of a roller coaster, with highs and lows, but overall one I enjoyed it, while stepping out of my usual genres. Knowing that this story of survival is based on the true lives of the author‘s family was powerful, yet heart wrenching. The story of their survival in the midst of despair and unspeakable evil is one to honor and keep alive theirs and others stories who lived and died through the genocide of the Jewish men, women, and children.
This is one I highly recommend to all.
