Homeschooling for Excellence
Homeschooling for Excellence | David Colfax, Micki Colfax
2 posts | 3 read
THE COLFAXES DIDN'T START TEACHING THEIR BOYS AT HOME TO GET THEM INTO HARVARD - BUT THAT'S WHAT HOMESCHOOLING ACCOMPLISHED! For over fifteen years, David and Micki Colfax educated their children at home. They don't think of themselves as pioneers, though that's what they became. Unhappy with the public schools, the Colfaxes wanted the best education possible for their four sons: a program for learning that met the evolving needs of each child and gave them complete control of how and what their children learned. The results? A prescription for excellence-Harvard educations for their sons Grant, Drew, and Reed. (Their fourth son is still too young for college.) Now the Colfaxes tell how all parents can become involved in homeschooling. In a straight-talking book that reads like a frank conversation among friends, they tell what they did and how they did it: their educational approaches, the lessons they learned, and what materials-books, equipment, educational aids-proved most useful over the years. Best of all, they show you how you can take charge of your children's education-in an invaluable sourcebook that will help you find a rewarding and successful alternative to our failing schools.

This is #schoolinlife for our homeschool. My son studies Japanese, juggling, and programming 🤣Today‘s song would be Life On Mars? (David Bowie/cover Sophia Anne Caruso) since that‘s my daughters current project ❤️❤️❤️ https://genius.com/Sophia-anne-caruso-life-on-mars-lyrics

Skyrimir Love seeing other homeschoolers! My mom homeschooled me and my three siblings all the way to graduation. :) 5y
Chrissyreadit @Skyrimir that‘s awesome! There are a bunch of homeschool families on Litsy that pop up randomly! 5y
Cinfhen Sweet! How old is your son?? 5y
Chrissyreadit @Cinfhen He‘s 14. All about learning magic and havoc these days. 5y

My daughter (pregnant with #6), homeschooling oldest son. I help one day a week as her kids range from 2-10 years old. I‘ll be stuck once they get to 6th grade math I‘m afraid!🤪 English my strong suit!

LeahBergen # 6??? 😮 And homeschooling, too? 😮😮 6y
CocoReads Wow! Homeschooling was never an option for us but I‘d have been lost after 6th grade math as well. 6y
Alfoster I know, right? She‘s fortunate to be a stay-at-home mom with a credential so she loves it! 6y

Alfoster @LeahBergen @CocoReads She loves it but I always have to look over the lessons first!😍 6y
minkyb I was replaced after 4th grade math! Kudos to your daughter! 6y
CocoReads That‘s great! 6y
Gezemice Wow, six kids and home-schooling, that‘s amazing! 6y
ContraryMary I wish I had the patience/education to home school my kids! 6y
Alfoster @ContraryMary Agreed! I didn‘t either! Seriously, 40 freshman were easier to handle because we were all on the “same page”! I couldn‘t afford to stay home either. We‘re blessed that she can! 6y
[DELETED] 3803335244 We homeschool too! I have 5 kiddos & love it! Great for you helping her. Thankfully I‘m good at math. My hardest subject to teach is PE. I‘m not much of a sports person 6y
Alfoster @ForeverNerdy Haha! They have lots of property! PE not an issue yet! They never stop! (May need you to help me with math😳!) 6y
[DELETED] 3803335244 @Alfoster anytime! ❤️❤️ 6y
Chrissyreadit Homeschooling rocks! My mom helps me out also. I only have two kids, but I also work and couldn‘t do it without her. 6y
Marmie7 Homeschooler here too! Can't imagine it any other way.💝 6y
LaLecture I always find it fascinating to hear about homeschooling. Where I live it‘s only allowed when your kid can‘t go to school for health reasons or you live abroad and even then professional teachers have to teach them. So I don‘t know a single person who has been homeschooled, but it‘s really interesting to hear how it works. My weak spot would definitely be PE xD. 6y
Updrifting I used to teach swimming lessons to kids (ironic, I know, given what I write) and my favorite group was one of five homeschooled kids who would come to me for lessons each week. They were the sweetest children! 6y
