The Complete Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: The Trilogy of Five
The Complete Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: The Trilogy of Five | Douglas Adams
8 posts | 10 read | 9 to read
On 12 October 1979 the most remarkable book ever to come out of the great publishing corporations of Ursa Minor (and Earth) was made available to humanity. This was of course The Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy. But this was just the beginning. We followed the adventures of hapless protagonist, Arthur Dent and his alien side-kick, Ford Prefect, across a trilogy of five books: The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy series. And this merry spacewagon, featuring a flying sofa, a Paranoid Android, a gift-wrapped fishbowl, bath towels and much else besides, became an instant classic. Now, for the first time, we are publishing all five books in the Hitchhiker's series, as an ebook omnibus. Praise for The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy series It changed my whole life. Its literally out of this world Tom Baker Really entertaining and fun Michael Palin It is funny and funny in every way . . . it is the sort of humour which crops up from time to time and immediately find its own level, its own audience Daily Telegraph Indispensable reading for mental hitch-hikers who want to thumb a lift out of the ruts of orthodox thought . . .science fiction that is very intelligently amusing, or very amusingly intelligent Daily Mail

I‘ve only ever read two books more than once, and only one book more than twice. I‘ve seen it mentioned quite a lot recently, so decided it must be time for a fourth reading!

Sometimes you‘re a little sad and you need to read an old favorite.

What are your feel good reads?

swynn Kenneth Bulmer's "Dumarest of Terra" series -- partly because of the time in my life when I encountered it; partly because of its low demand on mental resources. 7y
Expandingbookshelf @swynn oooh I‘ll check it out! Thanks 💙 7y
swynn @Expandingbookshelf Well this is embarrassing: I've conflated two series: Kenneth Bulmer's series is "Dray Prescott" and begins with "Transit to Scorpio." The Dumarest of Terra" series is by E.C. Tubb and begins with The Winds of Gath. The two series have nothing in common except that I discovered both in my early twenties and have returned to both repeatedly over the years for comfort reads. Sorry for the mess. 7y

When I think of #Five, I think of the wonderful Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, a trilogy in #five parts! 😂Of course spoilt slightly now as Eoin Coifer has written a sixth one since the tragically early death of Douglas Adams. #NovemberByTheNumbers

When I read these in college I thought they were brilliant. Hitchhiker's Guide was the funniest and most enjoyable science fiction book I'd ever read. How did Adams come up with this? He must be #outofthisworld!
