How Did You Get This Number
How Did You Get This Number | Sloane Crosley
12 posts | 41 read | 31 to read
The hilarious "New York Times" bestselling literary essay collection from Sloane Crosley, the author of "I Was Told There'd Be Cake "and "The Clasp." Sloane Crosley, the brilliantly funny "fountain of observations" ("Boston Globe"), now takes readers from a bear-infested wedding in Alaska to a run-in with clowns in Portugal in a new collection of essays about the messiest and most unexpected dilemmas life has to offer. "How sure-footed and observant Sloane Crosley is. How perfectly, relentlessly funny." -- David Sedaris

The title remains elusive until the last essay (but the bear comes sooner, so 🤷🏻‍♀️) and as many say it‘s not as funny as I Was Told There‘d Be Cake, but I still laughed out loud in some places and generally enjoyed myself. And it‘s number 24 for #24in2024, so I feel like a middle schooler who finished her homework early. 😂 @Jas16

Jas16 I am so impressed! I still have four to go! 1mo

A book I had hanging around the house and found in Libby so I could get it read. This is fine. Some funny bits, some awkward bits. The essays tend to ramble a lot in the middle. Crosley also does the narration which is so slow it doesn‘t sound like normal speech until about 1.5x speed.

My litsy stopped working for the last few days, so this is the first post in a dump. I love crosley‘s essays and this #bookofessays was charming. #halfbloodbingo

Not quite as good as her most recent collection, these essays from Sloane Crosley are still fun, funny and relatable. She reads the audiobook herself, which really worked for me.

Not as funny as I was hoping it would be, but a good quick audiobook to listen to during the read-athon.

So I finished this #audiobook today, while doing various errands and household chores. It was fine for mindless background noise but honestly Sloane Crosley was a bit too snarky for my taste. She seemed to be trying too hard to be witty and relevant. I prefer listening to Chelsea Handler do her shtick. This collection was just a meh for me. #nonfictionnovember

MrBook Cookies!!! 😳 8y
Lola "Trying too hard to be witty and relevant" precisely sums up how I felt about Maria Semple's Today Will Be Different but I couldn't find exactly the right words to explain. Thanks for perfectly expressing my thoughts. And those cookies look delish! 8y

While not as laugh out loud funny as I WAS TOLD THERE'D BE CAKE, I love Sloane's perspective on life. Definitely worth a read (or listen, she reads her own work).

A new work day, a new audiobook. I adore Sloane Crowley. I WAS TOLD THERE'D BE CAKE is one of my all-time favorite essay collections so I'm eager to try this one. She reads her own books, which is a special treat. I still have yet to read THE CLASP, I've been saving it for the perfect reading day, but I think I just need to dig in.

bookandcat Ahhh I loved The Clasp! Are the essays good? I might get this 8y
