I enjoyed this one. I‘ve been on a long reading hiatus.
Anybody have some advice? Bought this used paperback and didn‘t notice until I started reading that the binding is cracked in the middle. The pages are all still held in there but I‘m worried if it keeps falling open where it‘s broken that the pages will fall out eventually. The internet says Elmer‘s glue and pressure will do the trick but I wanted to ask you guys. :)
Getting into some short stories by my favorite author.
This book was charming and beautiful. A quick read that took me forever because of the holidays haha.
I hope your Christmas is as nice as mine. Happy Hollidays everyone! ❤️ I‘m spending it with my parents and brother, just like when we were little.
I had to buy this at the used book store bc of the cover art 😮👻💀🎄⛄️
This is the first Murakami book I read. I had borrowed it from a friend, and wanted to own it ever since. So it‘s my Christmas gift to myself. 🙂
My mom LOVES these Hannah Swenson mysteries. Found this signed copy for her Xmas gift
Haven‘t been reading lately bc I‘ve been WAY too busy between working and moving... We just got our new apartment! Just me and my boyfriend and this sweet lil guy. When the holidays are over, I‘m going to get a massage and sleep for three days. This has been a lot of work. 😴 #petsoflitsy #dogsoflitsy
Anybody else have this concentration/focus problem? I swear I have undiagnosed ADD... Really enjoying my current book but here I am on my phone!
I just gave up on House it Leaves. It never did grab my interest. Gonna start this one. Thanks again @vivastory for that secret Santa shipment 2-3 years ago :)
Strangest dedication I‘ve seen, I think.
Oh man this one is really fun. Great choice for a goofy #spooktober read. Rewatched the movie the other day too. Almost finished!! Sure wish I could focus and read more than 3 pages at a time but whatever. I still enjoy reading even if I‘m slow af.
This book was just what I needed. A childhood adventure, mixed with real-life adult issues (without being too heavy). You know those stories where you're like "oh, i hope these certain things work out this certain way" but then some of the things work out differently, but in a really nice way? It's like that. I read mostly upsetting books... A wholesome tale with a happy ending was exactly what i needed before spooktober haha.
Yes, it's such a party that sometimes we blow our fucking brains out
I wasn't supposed to get another book from the library bc I already have several of my own books lined up to read but this one caught my eye.
I went looking through my kindle for something short and lighthearted to read, as this last week or so has been pretty rough for me emotionally. This one is doing me well so far. Cute and sassy and heartwarming.
In a world ruled by the dead, we are forced to finally start living.
Finishing this today.
Hmm this book had some really fun to read spooky parts. Overall i really liked it. Can't really put my finger on whatever kept me from truly loving it. Oh well, it was pretty short and I'm glad I read it.
@vivastory I checked this one out at the library bc i found myself away from home without a book. I'm just a few pages in but liking it so far!
This one caught my eye from my bookshelf, figured I'd give it a shot. My first experience with Zadie Smith. I've heard mixed things. It appeals to me so far, but I'm just a few pages in.
Ok I made it through the first section and barely into the second. I decided the writing in this book is not something I have to force myself to comprehend right now. Too many old/colloquial words I guess. I'm already fighting off distractions every time I read, so it's just not working out. I'd like to try again at another time, and I'm interested in trying Bone Clocks if it's a bit easier to read, but I'm gonna go ahead and move on for now.
"Peace, though beloved of our Lord, is a cardinal virtue only if your neighbors share your conscience."
This is my 4th Haruki Murakami book. None of them have made sense. All of them have stuck with me for a long time after reading and left me with a desire to reread in the future. The feelings these books give you linger like a weird dream that you'd like to figure out but probably can't. I love his writing style and his unique perspective. I highly recommend literally anything by this guy.
Ok any Always Sunny fans??!! Charlie and the lawyer 😂😂😂 I can't see this word without laughing about that episode.
Next up! I just picked this up from the library based on a recommendation from a Haruki Murakami fan group. This guy David Mitchell is inspired by Murakami's writing and I'm excited to check him out. My boyfriend just told me this was made into a movie too! So we're going to watch the movie after I finish reading it. :)
"How was it possible for a life of misery to be happy overall? But then I understood, that misery could be limited to the future."
This book is getting weirder and weirder. I expect and embrace the weirdness of Murakami's novels. I just can't get enough!
I woke up early and came to the couch to read and have some coffee. Simon continues to sleep while helping me hold my book up.
I've been sick for 2 weeks with what was discovered in the ER Tuesday to be a kidney infection. Graphic novels are perfect for my fever brain at the moment so I'm really glad I'd just picked up this hold from the library. Today is day 3 of antibiotics and the fever and headache seem to have receded, so I'll hopefully be able to take my boy outside to play finally. I've been the non-dog-walking dead all week!! :(
"You oughtta move someplace with classier doors." -the guy who just broke down his door
A little bit of reading time with my pup before meeting my dad for lunch... Our relationship is very strained, and all he wants to talk about is his political beliefs (he's desperately seeking acceptance from me, his socialist daughter, of his pro-Trump beliefs... Not gonna happen...) So I want to have a dad, but he's making it difficult. I'd much rather agree to disagree and talk about literature or philosophy or food or work like we used to.
This just happened haha! Thank you for following me :)
This is the wedding my (ex)husband SHOULD have had 😂😂😂
Sorry it isn't about a book really. I couldn't resist lol!
Good morning! No work for me today. Just coffee and my favorite author and puppy snuggles.
😂 I love it. Already really enjoying this one. Just a few pages in and I'm hooked. He writes such unique characters 😍
"For only through assiduous repetition is it possible to redistribute skewed tendencies."
I bought this book used, as with most of my other books. I don't mind when people highlight or write notes, it kinda gives me a sense of sharing with a mystery person.
I'm gonna abandon that 2nd-in-a-row autobiography I've been reading, in favor of some fiction by my (probably) favorite author, so that I'll actually want to pick up a book again.
I want to find my niche in non fiction books. I love learning, but autobiographies are not appealing to me. I think, in general, the kind of person who is inclined to write an autobiography is just a little too self absorbed for me to enjoy their writing.
Is anyone else wondering if this woman is a complete narcissist? She never mentions caring for or loving anyone but herself. Everything she does so far is completely selfishly motivated. Like, i understand an Iranian woman having to stand up for herself and defend herself (that's why i wanted to read it) but she never describes feeling any type of affection for siblings, parents, husband, child, friends, etc. Maybe it's just her writing style?
This was a great continuation of the story. I love Marjane. Such a relatable character. I adore the honesty in these stories and I feel like I know the characters.
Starting this now! I was so touched by her interview on NPR and couldn't wait to check this out from the library.
Sorry, I didn't like this book haha. It was very short but full of platitudes and tired puns and cliches. I like her personality and I think I would have liked her irl, but this book was not especially enjoyable to me :/
I am so so sorry that the first (possibly only) share-worthy quote I found in this book is from her ex husband, but bless her heart, I don't think Carrie Fisher was born for writing :/ And I feel this.
I'm enjoying getting the feeling of her personality though. RIP, Princess
This one kept me interested. I'm not a fan of graphic depictions of sexual assault, for understandable reasons, even though it's apparently a very popular thing to write about, but the story was intriguing and the writing was good. I like to read quick-moving mysteries like this in the summer.
6.5 hours before the library closes. I have about 75 pages left in this one, and halfway through Persepolis 2. Both due back today. Gotta do laundry and run to the bank, but I'm thinking I can get them in on time. I hate renewing books haha.
Loving the art in this Descender series 😍
