Contents May Have Shifted | Pam Houston
Pam Houston s latest takes us from one breathtaking precipice to the next as we unravel the story of Pam (a character not unlike the author), a fearless traveler aiming to leave her metaphorical baggage behind as she seeks a comfort zone in the air. With the help of a loyal cast of friends, body workers, and a new partner who inspires her to appreciate home, she finally finds something like ground under her feet."

Pickpick

It took me a while to get into this book since it jumps around a lot, but I'm so glad I stuck with it. Her writing is wonderful. I'm going to have to go back and reread it to see what I missed.

The further along in this book I get, the more I don't want it to end, when I come across passages like this.

I love Pam Houston's phrase "a beautiful song-of-a-paragraph" but am never going to be able to listen to anyone with a Newfoundland accent the same way again!

For some reason, this paragraph speaks to me.

Bailedbailed

I persevered a little and then took the advice of @Amiwithani @Lakesidemusing under advisement and bailed. The story fragments are so short that it simply didn't engage me in anything (except that her boyfriend was a douche). I'm done.

Has anyone read this? I'm struggling. It's memoiry, written in a series of vignettes about the author's travels and her friends/ lovers that she engages with on the way. My issue is that they are so darn short and superficial that I'm not engaged by any of them. Not so far anyway - I'll persevere.

Gulfsidemusing Life is too short to read books you aren't enjoying... go ahead and bail if this isn't doing it for you! 8y
AmiGreko I absolutely loved Pam Houston's collection Cowboys Are My Weakness (much edgier/cooler than the name suggests!) but I also found this one a but hit or miss! Would really encourage you to read Cowboys though, if you haven't already! 8y
