This is a wonderful story for any teacher to use as a social-emotional learning read aloud to teach children how to overcome stress, fear, and anxiety and that things aren't always as scary as we think they may be.

Speculative fiction. Published 2017. This book is a super humorous story about a brave young ninja who needs to figure out how to catch the monster in his closet. The underlying message from this story is how to overcome stress, fear, and anxiety. This is a great read for a whole class read aloud in younger grades. I love this story!

This cute fiction book is a book I would read around Halloween. This book is about a boy who is afraid of monsters because the monster looks at him through the closet door. The boy doesn‘t realize that the monster just wants to play with the boy though. The is a great book for shared reading because I know a lot of children might be afraid that there are monsters in the closet. The UDL I would use is 7.3 minimize threats and distractions.

Samantha.K I would use that UDL because they would be in smaller groups so they can open up more to each other. I would use ESOL strategy 2 promote cooperation. https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/blog-posts/kriscia-cabral/17-18/How-to-Catch... this is a cute lesson that you can use so that students can write about a monster. #ucflae3414f17 6y

This New York Times best seller F book by Adam Wallace would be great for PR! The main character, a ninja, is on a mission to scare the monster that lives in his closet, but he comes to realize the monster is not as scary as he thought. ESOL 10. Teach think, pair and share strategies in cooperative groups. UDL 7.2 Optimize relevance, value, and authenticity. #UCFLAE3414F17

Teresaj My resource is is a lesson plan that incorporates a writing activity and a STEM activity! https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/blog-posts/kriscia-cabral/17-18/How-to-Catch... 6y

This was a super cute book that is RF. It‘s about a boy who wants to stand up to a big monster and ends up being his friend. He thought the monster was big and scary but really just wanted a friend! This books brings out the importance of friendship! I would use the as a RA and have a discussion afterwards about the message behind the book. UDL 9.1 promote expectations and beliefs that optimize motivation. I would use this to promote friendship

brittanyg and expectations I have for my students. EL 1 teach questioning for clarification to make sure my students have comprehended the text. https://www.readerstheater.com/supplements/HowToCatchMonstersSupplement.pdf this has activities and worksheets to go along with the stories to build there understanding of the text. #UCFLAE3414F17 7y
HNager This looks like it is going to be a great book, I love how you would use the EL strategy. 7y

DrSpalding Being that monsters are not real… This would not be realistic fiction. What else could you choose for the genre? 6y

First off, I want a monster that farts Strawberries and limes. Monsters just want friends. They are nothing to be scared of, or worried about. But sometimes a little one needs some extra courage. A fun book with vibrant illustrations. The book rhymes well. Over all it's not bad. Not my favorite, but not bad.
