This modern fantasy short novel is apart of my favorite childhood book series! It is perfect for Elementary schoolers who are just starting to read chapter books! I would use this as independent reading to help them get introduced into chapter books! This is the first book in the series and is about Jack and Annie, two siblings, who travel back into the time of the dinosaurs!

I'll use UDL 5.1, use multimedia for communication, since I will have them interact with her website. This realistic fiction Corretta Scott King award winning book is another book the is perfect for literature circles in upper middle school. It is about a teenage boy who accidentally kills his best friend when drunk driving. I would use this book in my classroom to teach a lesson and educate my students about this topic. This fiction Ezra and Corretta Scott King award winner picture book is an amazing book. I will definitely use this book in my classroom and I chose it because I am a dancer and Misty Copeland is one of my idols! I would use this as an author study in my classroom. One book I would show to my class was also introduced to me in the 3rd grade and the author was a local author in my hometown. This fiction picture book is the winner of a Theodore Suess Geisel Award! It is perfect for read alouds in Kindergarten Classrooms because it is very helpful for emergent readers. This RF Sibert Award winning books Is such a sweet picture Book! It is about a little boy named Peter who goes out in the snow and has a great adventure! I would use this book with story telling because it is meant for younger students and it will be fun for them to see me acting it out! This RF Coretta Scott King award winning book would be perfect for LC. This book is about a young teen who is trying to go throughout his life while struggling with the death of his aunt. This book is definitely for older students so I would use LC for them to talk about their feelings about the book in them. She does not like this a decides to run for class president against one of the most popular kids in school! This Fiction sunshine State Young Readers Award is perfect for story telling in the younger classrooms. It is a funny book about two little kids who decide to enter their 66 pugs in a dog sledding race! They go through lots of crazy adventure and ups and downs in this book! I think it's perfect for storytelling because you can use toys/animals to help act it out! The class will have a ball!

This Traditional Literature picture book is perfect to use to teach kids a life lesson. It is about a baby duck who is very ugly. All of the other animals make fun of him and are mean to him. I would use this book with readers theater and have my students act it out in front of their peers. When I was little my sister and I were obsessed with the Titanic. This non-fiction book would be great to use as a read aloud in class. It is all about the history and artifacts found from the Titanic! They would use the book to collect information for their assignment!

I was inspired to read this Caldecott winner biography from when someone did their Book Boost on it. I think the pictures in it are amazing and I would use this book along with story telling and a history lesson. I think that this would be a unique way to read the book. I would use this lesson plan as a guideline http://citadel.sjfc.edu/students/. This book is about her life of Harriet Tubman and how she helped her people to freedom!

This HF John Newberry award winner book was another one of my favorites as a child. It is about a girl who lives on an island all by herself. She must find ways to survive and have a close eye out for the wild dogs and the tribe that lives there! You won't want to put this book down! I would use it in an upper elementary class using shared reading! #ucflae3414f17

Matilda / Matilda | Roald Dahl

This is a Modern Fantasy novel that was one of my favorite books as a child! It's about a little girl named Matilda who is in her first year of school. All of the adults are mean to her and make fun of her intelligence. Matilda happens to have magical powers that she uses to stand up to the adults! I would use this book in my classroom for readers theater. Each kid would be a character and act out each chapter!

We could also use it for compare and contrast. Out of My Mind | Sharon M. Draper

This RF New York Times Best Seller novel is an amazing read. This is one of my favorite books that I have read and would use it in LC in my classroom. It is about a little girl named Melody. She has cerebral Palsy but is very intelligent. She narrates the book and talks about her struggles and thoughts of her life. UDL 5.1, use multiple media for communication, is perfect for this book since Melody uses different forms of media to communicate!

MakennaK ESOL 10, teach think, pair and share in cooperative groups is a great strategy to use to get students to talk about their feelings about their book and find out how other students feel about the book! Again, it is a price of media which I think is a great tool to use with this book since Melody uses media in the book to communicate and to say what is on her mind! 7y

Colors of Me | Brynne Barnes

This is a picture book of poetry with beautiful illustrations and a great message! I would use this in a RA to teach students a lesson about diversity! It is about a kid who is wondering if things in life know what color they are. He says if they could be any color that they would be all the colors! At the end he realizes that everyone and everything is a different color, but that is ok! #lae3414f17

MakennaK I would use EL strategy 2, promote cooperation. During this, students will be able to talk to one another about diversity and discover new ideas and thoughts from other students! I would use UDL 2.4, promote understanding across languages, because it allows for more diversity and for all types of students to learn! 7y

AJones What a beautiful book! My kindergarteners would absolutely love Brynne Barnes' playful rhymes, and I like how she asks questions throughout the book. This strategy gets students thinking. I also love Annika M. Nelson's vivid illustrations. ❤️📚I agree this book would enhance any lesson on diversity. Children need to understand it's alright to be different more now than ever. This is a hilarious F PB, winner of the, "Goodreads best choice picture book", that I would use in a RA with younger children. AlexaDP I remember first hearing about this good from a teacher I was observing who had students who did not like washing their hands. I thought it was hilarious and I knew that it would be one of the firsts to go in my classroom library! 7y

kkidwell I am in love with these books! I even own the pigeon plush. Each of these books has a lesson that younger students can learn from. Especially this one, as others have pointed out, children have a difficult time understanding the importance of handwashing and bathing in general. 7y
