Private detective gets a lucrative and important case that sees him meet a lot of increasingly strange characters. My type of book. Very entertaining, fast paced and easy read. The characters and story is fun throughout. Concept is interesting and sets up the unique adventure.

I generally like the comics I've read by this author. This book did not live up to my expectations. It was a quick read. The Chicago Tribune's blurb about it namechecks Chandler, Pahlaniuk, and Burroughs... it's not even in the neighborhood . Meh.

It hath begun.

Just started this last night right before going to sleep - bad idea!! Burned through half of it before passing out. Love Warren Ellis's prose style. So quick and funny and dark.

It may not be "Call me Ishmael," but it's certainly effective.

I put music on while reading about half the time. Usually it's this podcast when I do. It really adds atmosphere while not distracting me with vocals or even melodies. It hasn't been updated in a while but there are hours of episodes available. Aphex Twin (ambient works), Brian Eno, Harold Budd, and Sunn O))) are all great to read with too. #booksandmusic

Reads like sci-fi as it builds its own uniquely twisted world, only to repeatedly knock the wind out of you when you're reminded it's not a fictional landscape at all - it's just the world we live in, viewed through a black lens. Fun stuff.
