Set the Night on Fire
Set the Night on Fire | Libby Fischer Hellmann
3 posts | 2 read | 2 to read
Someone is trying to kill Lila Hilliard. As she desperately tries to determine who is after her she uncovers information about the past that threatens to destroy her. An unforgettable portrait of Chicago during the turbulent late 1960s: the riots at the Democratic Convention, the struggle for power between the Black Panthers and SDS, and a group of young idealists who tried to change the world.

I wanted to like this book as I liked the idea of it- a mystery unfolding now that is linked to the end of the idealism of the 60s. There was nothing wrong with the mystery (although everything was a little too easy), but the real problem was that I had a hard time connecting with the characters. I kept hoping I'd care, but the female protagonist was very flat for me. I liked a couple side characters more, but they were really minor characters.

Pickpick

How far would you go to stand up for your family, your beliefs, and those that matter to you? How willing are you to rebuild, when you find out some very important things about yourself? This novel raises and answers these questions in an action-packed, drama filled, emotionally charged story. I feel I dragged it out, because I actually did not want it to end. #recentlyread #nospoilers #drama #crimefiction ⚠️💥🖤
