The Girls of No Return
The Girls of No Return | Erin Saldin
5 posts | 3 read | 2 to read
CUT meets HATCHET in this lacerating debut about girls, knives, and redemption. The Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness Area stretches across two million acres in northern Idaho. In its heart sits the Alice Marshall School, where fifty teenage girls come to escape their histories and themselves. Lida Wallace has tried to negate herself in every way possible. At Alice Marshall, she meets Elsa Boone, a fierce native Idahoan; Jules, who seems too healthy to belong at the school; and Gia Longchamps, whose glamour entrances the entire camp. As the girls prepare for a wilderness trek, Lida is both thrilled and terrified to be chosen as Gia's friend. But everyone has their secrets--their "Things" they try to protect; and when those come out, the knives do as well. THE GIRLS OF NO RETURN is a bold and powerful debut.

Mehso-so

Because I hadn't seen any reviews of this book, I had no idea what to expect. It's ... good in some ways, though a little frustrating in others. The characters (most of them, at least) were interesting and drew me in, and the starkness of the setting was very apropos. But there's a bit of a "mystery" that's hinted at throughout and it didn't give much of a payoff. The ending was a little tidy and predictable. But there's some good here too 3/5 ⭐️

I don't think I've seen a single person on Instagram, YouTube, or anywhere else talk about this book, and very few posts on here, so we'll see! #nowreading

Pickpick

This was a good story, and a quick read, but I did think from reading the book blurb that the girls' Things would be a bit juicier. The author did do a good job of not revealing too quickly the details of the "incident", so that I kept wondering what exactly happened. Of course, that suspense kept me turning the pages!
