I came to read this after having seen the movie adaptation.

There's a weird tentativeness about it and the overall story had moments where I just was left floundering, and had some time trying to connect with the characters but I found the pacing to be wonky as sometimes it felt non-linear and other times like moments or dialogue were cut out but even then I read it and still enjoyed the overall book.

I didn‘t love this but I still love Anne Tyler. I think this is one of her early books and I didn‘t care for the characters in the way I usually do, but it was still a short, sweet palate cleanser in between heavier reads.

It‘s #Hour 42 (already?) and us #24in48 Readathoners get to pick our favorite read. Here‘s mine: Anne Tyler‘s 3rd novel (1970) about a painfully shy teenage girl who becomes wildly obsessed with a perplexing musician. To see how far this groupie will go to get this rock star‘s attention certainly got mine. 😳

Yay! We‘re halfway there at #Hour 24. I‘ve read 2.5 books and clocked in 10 hours so far. I‘m getting a little too cozy on my Peanuts blanket, but these nutty snacks should do the trick. 🤪

Whether you‘re napping or reading, I‘m sending 🤗🤗🤗 to all!

"I'll never get anywhere. I ain't but nineteen years old and already leading a slipping down life."

What a weird little read. Bought it at an op shop somewhere. Whenever I see a secondhand Anne Tyler novel that I haven't read, I buy it. My plan is to gradually work my way through her 20+ novels. I've read 6 so far.

I enjoy her writing style, her well-drawn characters & her tales of ordinary life.

wonga i've seen this movie, which i didn't realize was based on her book 📚 7y
MrsMalaprop @wonga I read that the movie adaptation was one of the worst ever! 7y
