Oh, Littens! How on earth do you manage to read so many books? Looking for practical suggestions on getting more time to read. When I'm not at the FT day job, I seem to spend all my time cooking, cleaning, etc. I do listen to audiobooks on my commute and while I cook / clean whenever possible, but I'm starved for the printed page. How do you find YOUR reading time?
OSChamberlain I keep a book with me at ALL TIMES. The second I can sit down or just have time to kill, even if it's just a few minutes, I pull out the book. 8y
MarriedtoMrT My house is an atrocious mess. I watch almost no TV so I never know what shows/movies my coworkers are talking about. And I often stay up way too late and pay for it for days after. Not great advice, sorry! Sometimes I read more than others and I prioritize it because I will be horrible to be around if I don't take that slice of time for myself. 8y
KimM You schedule it. Just like someone might schedule a round of golf. Otherwise there is never "free time". 8y

BookishFeminist Schedule. I also listen to audiobooks while I'm working (ones that I don't need to pay close attention to). I read in most of my spare time. I always have a book on my phone so I can read while I'm out and about when I find myself waiting in line. It's possible but sometimes it takes awhile to adjust! I also like to read a few books at a time (easier than it seems if they're diff formats) so I can switch back & forth and not burn out on one. (edited) 8y
LauraBrook I always have at least one book with me. One night a week I don't turn on the tv, and I read in bed (w kindle) every night. It helps that I don't have kids and am single, though. Plus, like @MarriedtoMrT my house is always a mess. And I have autoimmune issues, so there's a fair amount of laying down/quiet time in my life. 8y
BookishFeminist http://bookriot.com/2017/03/30/tips-and-tricks-on-how-to-read-more/ and http://bookriot.com/2014/08/05/book-polygamy-read-one-book-time/ are both great full of great tips for how to squeeze in more reading time & read multiple books at once. Many of these tips helped me when I had the same question as you a couple years ago. 8y
TrishB @MarriedtoMrT same 😀 no clue about telly generally. House a mess. Just about cook for the kids. My reading time is important. 8y
Dragon I always have books in my car. I leave a bit early for work so I can read in the car for 20-30 minutes, I also have a book at work that I read during my lunch break. I always have books on my phone in case I'm standing in line and need to read 😀 8y
LauraBeth I don't watch a lot of tv so my evening "downtime" consists of reading. I always have a book with me wherever I go and I also set daily reading goals for myself (e.g. Read 100 pages). 8y
Redjewel_7734 Such great recommendations! I have the same problem & often feel no matter how hard I try to fit reading in I never read as much as I want. Hopefully all of these can help me improve 😊I also have to quit letting myself be made to feel guilty about taking tome to read by those around me who don't understand its importance to me. 8y
TrishB @Redjewel_7734 people never seem to feel guilty about binge watching telly series or box sets, so don't feel guilty about reading. Enjoy 😀 8y
Annl A few years ago, I realized that reading was one of my loves and yet, I was not making time for it. So, I start every day with coffee and a book and repeat the same when I come home at the end of the day. I also have a book with me wherever I go! 8y
Grrlbrarian Thanks for the recommendations, everyone! I especially appreciate the links, @BookishFeminist I already read multiples and watch little TV, but reminders are good - as is the info I haven't considered. Thanks again, @BookishFeminist @OSChamberlain @MarriedtoMrT @KimM @LauraBrook @TrishB @Dragon @LauraBeth @Annl @Redjewel_7734 8y
Redjewel_7734 @TrishB 😊 8y
Gissy I have a book with all the time even when I know that it will be impossible to read like when I'm going to run or swim but is there just in case. I wake up early so I can read at least 45 minutes while I drink my coffee. My contact with tv is almost zero and I practically have no social life with humans 😊well I go out but I love my solitude and silence space. 8y
