FOR RENT: Top two floors of beautifully renovated brownstone, 1300 sq. ft., 2BR 2BA, eat-in kitchen, one block to parks and playgrounds. No brokers fee. Susan and Alex Wendt have found their dream apartment. Sure, the landlady is a little eccentric. And the elderly handyman drops some cryptic remarks about the basement. But the rent is so low, its too good to pass up. Big mistake. Susan soon discovers that her new home is crawling with bedbugs . . . or is it? She awakens every morning with fresh bites, but neither Alex nor their daughter Emma has a single welt. An exterminator searches the property and turns up nothing. The landlady insists her building is clean. Susan fears shes going maduntil a more sinister explanation presents itself: she may literally be confronting the bedbug problem from Hell. From the Trade Paperback edition.

Mehso-so

I think I'm among the minority, but I thought it was just ok. It had too many slow parts and fillers for such a short book. It probably would have worked better with parts removed, and included in a book of short stories instead.

I didn't like Susan; I thought her life choices were childish and selfish. I was also disappointed in the ending.

THANK YOU @EH2018 for my horrifically wonderful #HalloweenHorrorSwap box!! I love all my books and goodies; I could barely force myself to tear into the wrapping because you did such a boo-tiful job and I didn‘t want to destroy those bows.
*I actually got Claire Messud to sign my copy of ‘The Burning Girl‘ at a festival last year, so I love my tote!
**And I love the bookmark!
Thank you so so much; I love it all 😽🖤

LeahBergen Bedbugs sounds disgustingly terrifying! 😮 5y
EH2018 Yay! Glad you like it!! I hope you enjoyed your Halloween! Happy Reading!! 🎃🕸🧙‍♀️📚 5y
kamoorephoto @EH2018 I totally freakin‘ LOVED it. You almost made it too pretty and I didn‘t want to open it 😹 The little ‘secret‘ Magic book is so great; I‘ve always wanted a hideaway book. And you actually managed to get horror books I hadn‘t read, including the arc. You can send me book boxes any time you want, sweet girl. I really hope you had a great Halloween yourself! I had the ‘Halloween‘ theme tune in my head all night... 5y
kamoorephoto @TheReadingMermaid Thanks for doing this swap! 🧜🏻‍♀️💓 5y

So my wife told me the other day she missed my book blog so I decided to start a new one. Check out www.boldcitybooks.weebly.com for a review of Bedbugs. The site isn‘t really finished yet - still have a lot of work to do but it feels good to be back reviewing.

I started off really not liking Susan, the main character but once the psychological horror started I was hooked. I fully admit, I did not read this book in bed. This was a quick and fast paced read.
Thanks @vivastory for recommending!

vivastory I'm glad you enjoyed! I had a couple of pretty disturbing dreams after I finished. I still have Winters last policeman trilogy to read. I've heard great things about it. 7y

It's pretty awesome having access to 8 libraries in the twin cities. If the WPL doesn't have a book, most times the KPL will and my mom or sister will pick it up and then my fabulous sister, @Erika13137 will bring it into work for me.
Mom just got Bedbugs for me and she is returning Mr. Rochester. It's awesome having a bookish family.

vivastory I really liked "Bedbugs." It's pretty disturbing 7y
Bundoolin Good to know! My top school right now is umn! #goldengophers 😅 7y
Amanda23 @Bundoolin I should have explained that the WPL and the KPL are waterloo/kitchener libraries in Ontario, Canada. But I'm sure UMN will have some great libraries too 😉 7y
Bundoolin Oh! I read twin cities and got all excited haha 😂 7y

I've had this ARC for years and I've yet to read it... 😬📚. Picked it up at a library book sale. One of these days I'll get to it. #insects #junebookbugs

Books_Wine_Repeat I would be so paranoid after reading this book. The title alone is making my skin crawl. 7y
Soubhiville @Books_Wine_Repeat I know it's creepy right? That's part of why I always bypass it for something else I think. Lol. 7y
MicheleinPhilly Ick. I just scratched the back of my neck so hard. 7y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled This is ITCHY but kinda sounds good! 7y
tpixie @Soubhiville yikes! Talk about Horror !! Forget Stephen King! Lol 😝 7y

A family moves into a new rental house in Brooklyn. The protagonist, Susan, begins suspecting that their home might have an infestation. The only other Winters' book I have read is "Underground Airline," his prose has a cinematic feeling. While reading "Bedbugs," I was reminded of Polanski's apartment trilogy ("Repulsion," "Rosemary's Baby" & "The Tenant"). For fans of fast paced psychological horror.

MrBook 😊👍🏻 7y
Joybishoptx You had me at Polanski's apartment trilogy...this has been in my radar. Thanks for the review! 7y
LeahBergen Just the title gives me the heebies 😬 7y

Sometimes the monster isn't under your bed...it's in it. A great, original horror story from Winters. It'll make you itchy. 😬
