Lies Jane Austen Told Me
Lies Jane Austen Told Me | Julie Wright
Ever since Emma read Pride and Prejudice, she's been in love with Mr. Darcy and has regarded Jane Austen as the expert on all things romantic. So naturally when Emma falls for Blake Hampton and he invites her home to meet his parents, she is positive an engagement is in her future. After all, Blake is a single man in possession of a good fortune, and thus must be in want of a wife. But when it turns out that what Blake actually wants is more of a hook-up than a honeymoon, Emma is hurt, betrayed, and furious. She throws herself deeper into her work as CMO of Kinetics, the fastest growing gym franchise in the nation. She loves her work, and she's good at it, which is why she bristles when her boss brings in a consultant to help her spearhead the new facilities on the East Coast. Her frustration turns to shock when that consultant turns out to be Blake's younger brother, Lucas. Emma is determined not to fall for Lucas, but as she gets to know him, she realizes that Lucas is nothing like his brother. He is kind and attentive and spends his time and money caring for the less fortunate. What she can't understand is why Lucas continues to try to push her back into Blake's arms when he so clearly has fallen as hard for her as she has fallen for him. It isn't until Lucas reveals to Emma that he was adopted into the Hampton family that she begins to understand his loyalty to Blake as well as his devotion to the child April-she is Lucas's biological niece. Emma opens up to Lucas about the feelings of abandonment she has harbored ever since she was a child and her mother left the family. As she helps Lucas deal with his past demons, she is able to exorcise some of her own. Realizing that her love life is as complicated as anything Jane Austen could have dreamed up, Emma must find a way to let Blake know that it's time for him to let her go and to let Lucas know it's time for him to love her back.

Emma Pierce is the social media manager for a chain of gyms in California. The co. takes on a consultant to help it expand into New England. He just happens to be her ex's brother who is hoping they will reconcile. But which brother does she really want?

There were places where the text could've been edited better and about 1/2 way through I did think it could've been shorter without any great loss, but on the whole it was entertaining enough.

Reggie Lots of soso‘s lately for you, huh? Hope you get some good books your way. 2y
rwmg @Reggie It's probably me rather than the books. Just finding it hard to feel much enthusiasm for anything atm 2y

I think Sylvia lost her other eye, not "it".

I finished this yesterday while writing my soup blog post. Light & a good homage to Jane Austen & her writing. It‘s a clean romance with lots of references to Austen‘s work & quotes that head each chapter. It doesn‘t follow a particular Austen storyline although the vibe probably leans closest to P&P. I wasn‘t 100% crazy about the narrator‘s male voices but I got used to them & the 8.5 hours of the book were pleasantly spent.💕#PemberLittens

sprainedbrain Oh this looks fun! Thanks for sharing. ❤️ 4y

Still #audiosouping to this one. It‘s cute & light. The soup is Watercress & Sweet Leek Soup from Jamie Oliver‘s Ultimate Veg ( pre watercress). I got to pick up my library hold of this cookbook earlier in the week by appointment at the door from the parking area. Baby steps to opening. Finished soup picks coming later.

Today‘s #audiosouping choice. I needed something light & so far this is. The soup is a recipe I am building around the “Satay‘in Alive Spice Blend I received as part of a blog event. It‘s meant to be vegetarian satay in a bowl. The base is the spice blend, peanut butter, broth, tomatoes, veggies & chickpeas & it still needs the coconut milk, lime juice & toppings but it smells incredible & tastes pretty darn good so far. Finished soup pics later.

LauraBrook That soup sounds amazing, and the book sounds like fun! 4y
Curiouser_and_curiouser Yum. Looking forward to your posts on finished soup. Enjoy your book! 4y

3.5 stars. If it has Jane Austen in the title, I will probably read it. This is a light, palette-cleansing book. The characters had to grow on me, but they end up being more layered than the beginning of the book leads you to believe. I usually find romance frustrating as a genre, and this one definitely had moments where that was the case, but overall, I enjoyed it quite a bit.

suzisteffen Oooh! I‘ll read just about any Austen-adjacent story (I bailed on one last holiday season). Thanks for the rec! 5y

My kids had a literacy night at school tonight, and this author was the speaker. I actually haven‘t read her books, although the one on the right has been on my to read for a looonnnnggg time, but she was a good speaker and very nice. I thanked her for coming to speak and she gave me a hug. :) I‘ll move her books further up my list!

Birdsong28 I have read the tagged book and it is good. Will have to check out the Breakfast at Tiffany's book. 📚📖 5y

Very good. Enjoyed it start to finish. Nice take on Jane Austen and the things she can teach us about life and love. Recommend. Thank you #NetGalley for the advance copy.
