The Mansion
The Mansion | William Faulkner
4 posts | 3 read | 5 to read
The Mansion completes Faulkner’s great trilogy of the Snopes family in the mythical county of Yoknapatawpha, Mississippi, which also includes The Hamlet and The Town. Beginning with the murder of Jack Houston and ending with the murder of Flem Snopes, it traces the downfall of the indomitable post-bellum family who managed to seize control of the town of Jefferson within a generation.

There's only one #Mansion for me -- though I suppose technically there are two of them. If you've never had the chance to go, give this a look: https://bloody-disgusting.com/videos/3375709/this-4k-haunted-mansion-ridethrough...

(The last time we went, for my daughter's 8th birthday, they had “Nightmare Before Christmas -ed“ it, which was sad.)

Ruthiella I know. The submarine ride is Finding Nemo now instead of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and the Swiss Family Robinson treehouse is Tarzan. But, that‘s Okay. New memories for the next generation. 6mo

I finished. Phew. I mean, i made it! This was work. But the trilogy comes with a wonderful ending, and that‘s something. This 3rd book was much better than than the previous one (The Town). There is a larger picture here on small town Mississippi life and its colorful characters, on the ways it‘s impacted by the larger world through changing technology, finances and two world wars.

Suet624 Congrats. That couldn‘t have been easy. 7mo
Graywacke @Suet624 no. It was a pain. 🙂 But some people really love this trilogy. 7mo

I am from Ripley, MS. William Faulkner‘s grandfather is buried here. And William was raised here. There is a retired librarian here who keeps up with the history of our little town. This is what he posted today. Never knew this. This was in April 1934

LauraBeth Oh that‘s neat! Isn‘t this his inspiration for 6y
