Lady of Quality | Georgette Heyer

"A writer of great wit and style...I've read her books to ragged shreds."-Kate Fenton, Daily TelegraphCelebrate the 80th birthday of Regency Romance with great books from Sourcebooks Casablanca! The spirited and independent Miss Annis Wychwood is twenty-nine and well past the age for falling in love. But when Annis embroils herself in the affairs of a pretty runaway heiress, Miss Lucilla Carleton, she is destined to see a great deal of her fugitive's uncivil and high-handed guardian, Mr. Oliver Carleton. Befriending the wayward girl brings unexpected consequences, among them the conflicting emotions aroused by her guardian, who is quite the rudest man Annis has ever met...Georgette Heyer's historical novels have charmed and delighted millions of readers. Her smart, independent heroines and dashing heroes brilliantly illuminate one of the most exciting and fascinating eras of English history, when drawing rooms sparkled with well-dressed nobility, and romantic intrigues ruled the day."In this delectable Georgette Heyer novel, the lady of quality and her bit-of-a-rake swain are the ones on whom our eyes are fixed. They don't play us false. Miss Heyer is in top form...romantic, amusing, and full of tart-tongued comment on the mores of the time."-Publishers Weekly"Set in Bath in the last years of the Regency, it has the authentic Heyer sparkle."-Woman's Journal

Started reading this book thinking I‘d finally found another Heyer romance that I had not read yet... only to realize one-third in that I have definitely read this one before. Oh well, still just as fun the second (or third?) time around!

How to tell I'm in a bit of a reading slump: I have tons checked out from the library yet I cannot stop ordering more.

All my current reading plans were tied to my new tablet but it started having touch screen issues after only a week so now I'm in the process of exchanging it. All reading plans are mostly on hold until the new one comes Monday. Until then, I'll just keep ordering in more physical books to fill the void.

"I have not until today had much opportunity to engage in verbal encounters. The gentleman I have previously been acquainted with have all been distinguished by propriety of manner and conduct!"

"That must have made 'me sad bores!" He commented.

Annis had met her match. ❤️

"No one could think she was bookish, but she reads prodigiously, and even keeps books in her bedchamber!"

A beautiful, fashionable, well-connected lady who reads? The horror! ?

EloisaJames @MarriedtoMrT it isn't even one of her best (to me). You have so much pleasure ahead of you! 7y
MarriedtoMrT @EloisaJames That's what I read (that it's not her best) after I had already started it. Do you have a favorite (or two)? I'm collecting recommendations. 7y
EloisaJames @MarriedtoMrT I love Sylvester. Arabella. Cotillion (crazy). Regency Buck. The Nonsuch. Oh, the Grand Sophy! 7y
