I tried to research and the best I could find was the “left-handed compliment“ has been around a lot longer (due to that idea of “left“ meaning “evil“), but “backhanded“ also has negative origins in the fact that it originated as a “backslap“ instead of a direct one ... it still hurts! 💛💜🧡 2mo

After the first year, the cities and townships with dispensaries got their allotment of the tax money, and suddenly the NIMBY attitude disappeared and all the bans were overturned. 😂 2mo

SamAnne In the desert of SE Oregon, on Steens Mountain, one can find many carvings in the old aspen by Basque and other sheepherders from the early 1900s, maybe earlier. They are still there. Very cool, except for the disturbing carvings of female figures with antlers. Likely a little later by white dudes. 5mo

I actually should have stuck to my habit with this particular word because it was very difficult to find a real definition or even a picture. What on earth did the word jives mean in 1803? 6mo
