AD 98: The bustling army base at Vindolanda lies on the northern frontier of Britannia and the entire Roman world. In just over twenty years time, the Emperor Hadrian will build his famous wall. But for now defences are weak as tribes rebel against Rome, and local druids preach the fiery destruction of the invaders. It falls to Flavius Ferox, Briton and Roman centurion, to keep the peace. But it will take more than just a soldier's courage to survive life in Roman Britain. This is a hugely authentic historical novel, written by one of Britain's leading historians.

@Cuilin #bookedintime #ancientrome

A quick look through my books has shown me these on my TBR, probably going with the tagged.

My recommendations is a children's/middle grade book series, which I loved growing up.

And another useful website: http://www.historicalnovels.info/Roman-History.html

TheBookgeekFrau I immediately thought to do a re-read of When We Were Gods, but I'm going to look into Colossus before I decide. Such a huge time frame feels overwhelming, thanks for the help! 9mo
Cuilin I too have this on my list 9mo

A bit heavy going at first but once we got into the story rather than the scene-setting/world building, it was an excellent action adventure yarn

I loved this book, and its adherence to historical context. It was well researched, the historical notes were fascinating, and it was still full of action, mystery&clever dialogue.
The narration was really good, with most characters having distinct voices or accents making it easy to differentiate despite the complex & similar names &titles.
A great read - I can't believe I put off reading it for so long!

Got an hour in last night a fair amount of reading in today as well. This #AudioBook is going well so far. A combination of thrilling battles, interesting (and well researched) information about the way of things in Roman Britain, and a cast of curious characters. Looking forward to see what happens 😊
